I’m currently 10+4 and called the doctors today about a non-pregnancy related medical concern that’s been going on since March.
I’m not worrying about it, but did push for tests and I got them. But I was explicit in the fact that I’m not worrying. However, the doctor ended the call being quite forceful saying ‘now, you mustn’t stress about this, you have to think of baby, babies don’t like stress, it restricts the blood flow to them and can cause a miscarriage so you must not stress about this’
And now I feel completely stressed! I’m panicking because I’ve had a couple of stressful days with work and personal life and I’ve been quite calm in the fact that it won’t be harming the baby as plenty of women go through much more stressful situations and still have healthy babies, but she has absolutely freaked me out Sad

What a ridiculously over the top doctor.

I think every single woman who is pregnant right now has been stressed. I spent most of my first trimester crying every day with work, financial, health and future worries. I'm 21 weeks now and currently being punched in my bladder.

I've worked with pregnant women who have strived to be a calm, serene earth goddess and given birth to incredibly highly strung, explosive children and then gone on to have an incredibly stressful pregnancy and give birth to a chilled out, unflappable baby.

Of course it's better to try and minimise stress where and when you can, but sometimes trying to do that with things that are outside of our control just brings more stress!

Congratulations on your pregnancy Thanks

Ughh why must doctors do these things! I swear over years they lose some humanity, how thoughtless and of course it's going to make you worried! However, babies are strong little things, I spent my first trimester living on adrenaline, nearly lost my mum who was very sick in hospital and I spent 3 months sick with stress and worry. Just had my 20 week scan and he's kicking away and throwing his arms around!!
You'll be fine, as will your baby Smile try and push his words to the back of your mind and continue as you were before ThanksThanks

@BingerGiscuit what an absolutely ridiculous thing for the GP to say, it's such a shame the standard of care varies so greatly between GP's and can have a wonderful one of an atrocious one. Please do try your best not to worry over what she has said, I cant even tell you what a stressful past 10 months I've had between losing my son & then developing epilepsy recently, but can reassure you that I'm 20 weeks pregnant now and baby so far is healthy and happy💖 I'm really sorry she has put the fear of god into you, I wish people were more careful with their words! Take care & wishing you a healthy, happy pregnancy x

BingerGiscuit · 20/07/2020 13:38

Thank you for your lovely replies! They got me all choked up, stupid hormones 😂🙈 I’m still quite shocked by what she said but have stopped panicking a bit now

@lionsmum oh my god, so sorry for your loss and all you’ve been through! And @Scotinportugal sorry for what you went through too! Thank you both for the stories, they’ve calmed me down Flowers so pleased you both have healthy babies Smile x

Ludicrous. I was talking to my midwife about stress (I’m 36 weeks and have spent most of this pregnancy worrying about lockdown, job security, the fact we planned to move from our tiny flat but haven’t so we’ll be here with a baby) and she reminded me women give birth in war zones. Obviously minimise stress to yourself right now - you’ve got plenty enough on with the pregnancy and other health concerns - but do it for you! Smile

Treaclepie19 · 20/07/2020 13:44

If that was the case I would have only had miscarriages. People have babies in all sorts of stressful situations. Try not to overthink his dramatics.

Treaclepie19 · 20/07/2020 13:44

Her I mean. Brain isn't engaged today 🙈

BingerGiscuit · 20/07/2020 13:46

Thank you @Dollywilde Smile sorry you’ve had a stressful time of it! I’ve honestly had that kind of - almost mantra - about women in war zones when I’ve been feeling stressed and then a so-called professional swoops in and pulls the rug from beneath my feet! But I’m definitely ignoring her now and have calmed down Smile

I wouldn't worry, I spent my entire pregnancy stressed to death (by the fucking midwives, I might add) and the result was last seen screeching like a pterodactyl and launching himself at his keyworker for his first day back at nursery.

Possibly make yourself a wee GP stuffed doll to squash occasionally, though. You know, for stress relief.

BingerGiscuit · 20/07/2020 13:50

@Amrythings 😂😂 great idea! Thank you x

Christ on a bike - show me a pregnant woman that hasn’t been stressed! It’s the most stressful thing you can ever do! So much to worry about.

SnuggyBuggy · 20/07/2020 17:12

If this was true the human race would never have survived.

Foreverbaffled · 20/07/2020 17:27

I echo everything that’s been said. Spent my whole first trimester sick with anxiety about Covid but just had 20 week scan and baby seems very happy. Am sure all will be fine :)

patientlywaitin · 20/07/2020 20:07

I'm sure it was (possibly still is) on the NHS website that stress won't harm the baby! I googled because I was very stressed during pregnancy.

Letmegetthisrightasawoman · 20/07/2020 20:12

What a load of bollocks! And seriously bad practice to freak you out like that! They shouldn't even bloody mention miscarriage unless it's relevant.

Anecdotally, I was soooo anxious during my first pregnancy and DS is so chilled out, it's bizarre! I'm now pregnant again and super laid back, so I'm expecting a non-sleeping high maintenance baby😆
