Pregnancy with medical condition

I have just found out I'm pregnant around 5-6 weeks according to clear blues digitalis and last period.
I have a kidney condition and this pregnancy wasn't planned I was on the pill but I was quite ill a few weeks ago.
My question is my kidney condition causes me to swell when in relapse and I think I'm relapsing now as I'm very swollen.
I went to hospital on Thursday before I found out I was pregnant as I was very swollen then and we didn't know the cause and my blood pressure was fine I had just put on 10kg fluid since last month. Plus I leak protein too at the minute my protein is 4+
I'm so scared I'm going to miscarry due to this
I only found out Friday night so I'm gonna call my hospital tomorrow but has anyone else got this or similar and had a healthy pregnancy.
My first pregnancy was fine as I was in remission I was not as scared as I am now

Thank you xx

Not quite the same, but I have one kidney due to a failed valve when I was younger. I have a tendency to retain water, and my one kidney has grown to compensate but this can cause back ache.

I had no issues with my kidney during pregnancy, but had to drink loads of water. They did take regular water samples which showed protein every time; and I had a consultant which made sure I had regularly blood tests to check function.

Baby was fine, and the issues I had were completely unlinked to my kidney issue.

Both my kidneys are affected but I retain lots of water if I relapse, right now my stomach and legs are so swollen. It also causes me to have high kidney function to when in relapse I never went through this with my first as I was in full remission.
Not seeing my consultant until Tuesday which is when I'll tell him
But until then it's going to feel like years as I'm so scared that me being like this is gonna effect it xx

I remember my consultant saying to me that if any issues were to occur they would be to me, and not the baby - fingers crossed your consultant is helpful Tuesday, have you seen them before?

Canadianinuk1 · 19/07/2020 19:46

Are you seeing a nephrologist on Tuesday or is that an obstetrician? Last time this happened, did they do a kidney biopsy, and a 24 hour urine collection? Were you ever on treatment for the previous episode (steroids, immunosuppression, etc)? Was there ever blood found in your urine (even just on the urinalysis not necessarily visible)... before this flare, did your kidney function return to normal since your last episode/did the protein in the Urine disappear or at least minimize? I’m so sorry this is happening, I hope they can get it under control without needing serious intervention.

I've had my illness since I was 8, and under this consultant for 6 years he is lovely and was very supportive during my last pregnancy I'm high risk pregnancy because of my kidney and can not fault the hospital, but just can't help but worry xx

Yes I'm seeing my nephrologist, no because last time my kidneys were absolutely fine and they were the best they had ever been during pregnancy too xx
I was on steroids and tacrilumus but I'm on nothing now as that was 4 years ago now xx

Everything was normal, but now I'm leaking 4+ protein, edema and kidney function is 110 x

As much as the protein/swelling isn’t a good thing, it’s promising that the creatinine has not shot up. This stuff is serious but I’m hopeful you and baby will be fine xx please keep us posted, I’m curious to know! Also I didn’t realize you’ve had this since you were so young! I thought it was a one time episode previously, my apologies I read too hastily! That makes me more hopeful things will be ok :)

Yep I was very young but the condition I have is rare so I'm told.
My kidney function when in remission is around 60-70 so I was really worried when I was told it was 110 and my protein leakage was 4+ I haven't told my consultant yet as only found out Friday night the whole weekend my mind has been in overdrive. My albumin is also quite low hence the swelling but I'm hoping my doctor will put me on steroids once I tell him.
I do have water tablets but I've read not to take them.
Thank you so much will deffo update once I know more.
When pregnant with my daughter 4 years ago my kidneys were the best they had ever been so just a shock this is happening xx
