Slimming world whilst pregnant

Bl0ndi3 · 18/07/2020 10:19

I am hoping to continue following slimming world whilst pregnant.

I have never been to classes or anything and have followed SW on and off for many years doing it myself via google and Instagram and Facebook.

I believe it's 2xA choice and 2x B choice as standard and usual syns.

Is anybody currently doing this or planning to do it? Has anybody previously done this and have any success stories to share about weight gain/or lack of in pregnancy?

Any tips?

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't go on these kinds of diets when pregnant. There should be more emphasis on healthy, nutritious meals rather than restrictions.

Bl0ndi3 · 18/07/2020 10:24

@FTMF30 sorry but you are wrong about that as slimming world is approved by midwives and is perfectly safe and healthy to follow whilst pregnant. You just have to adjust it slightly to the normal plan. Slimming world is a healthy eating plan and there are little to no restrictions on what you can or can't eat which I imagine is why it is approved by midwives.

Slimming World is recommended for keeping a healthy weight while pregnant, so there are no issues there.

They have a partnership with RCM, so there are definitely no restrictions & the focus is on having healthy, nutritious meals.

Sorry, I was only aware of anecdotal negativity about it from nutritionists. Didn't know it was approved by midwives.

I was looking it up and came across this okd thread which you might find useful.

It may be worth speaking to someone who runs a slimming world class, they have tailored programmes for pregnant women and breastfeeding- I think you get an extra A choice and possibly a few more syns

Bl0ndi3 · 18/07/2020 12:21

@FTMF30 that's okay :) I wasn't sure myself if I could continue on it, I've lost a couple of stone already and so scared of putting it all back on as I still have more I want to lose but my focus now will just be to maintain the healthiest weight that I can whilst pregnant.

Thanks for much for that Xx

@EllieJai44 I think I will do but two friends are at my local one so I might wait until I'm ready to tell people before I join the class and just see how I get on at home for now xx thank you lovely

Hi OP, I’ve been doing it! Basically an extra healthy A and an extra healthy B on top of usual plan. I’ve put on a bit of weight so far (20 weeks) but far less than I did in my first pregnancy. It’s been good to have something to focus on especially in early months when all I wanted to eat was junk. I think try not to be too hard on yourself and have your syns each day if you want them :)

Bl0ndi3 · 18/07/2020 12:52

@Foreverbaffled oh thank you :) that's good to hear! I'm literally only just pregnant found out 2/3 days ago haha so I've been sticking to what I normally would eat on SW but going to start increasing my healthy extras now. Is it 2a and 2b or I know now you can have 2a and 1b in the normal plan so is it 3a and 2b? X

Huge congratulations! :)

Yes I’ve been doing 3xA and 2xB. The extra A is really important for calcium so go for it. My BMI is quite high and they recommend I don’t put on more than 11-21lb by the end of pregnancy. I’m doing okay so far but it is harder at the end when the baby grows more rapidly.

Bl0ndi3 · 18/07/2020 13:54

@Foreverbaffled oh well that's excellent news because you know, cheese is life hahaha!

I'll start doing that now thanks I was only going to do 2a and 2b so I'm Super glad I started this thread now haha

I don't imagine I'll be able to stick to it 100% but anything is better than nothing because I'm really scared that I will gain so much weight and I've worked so hard to lose weight over the last few years x

@Bl0ndi3 that sounds like a really good attitude. Even if you just keep on plan for say 5/7 days a week it’s going to help. I’ve had a few weeks at a time where I’ve felt so rotten I’ve just succumbed to cravings but then was able to get back on plan pretty quickly.

Oh my other tip would be to use your syns for “good fats” like oily fish, avocado, bit of olive oil when cooking etc as those things are important in pregnancy too. Being totally low fat isn’t ideal. Also think about taking an omega-3 supplement as really important for brain development and something you might get a bit less of if you aren’t eating as much in your diet as you would normally.

LRHRN · 18/07/2020 14:26

I'm so slimming world and yes it's 2x A and 2 x B and 20syns.
Slimming world is recommended throughout pregnancy as it's not a diet it's a healthy lifestyle change.
I'm 21 weeks pregnant and have gained 6lb so far which I'm really pleased with. It could of easily been a lot more if I didn't follow the plan xxx

Treaclepie19 · 18/07/2020 15:55

I'm so confused. In the booklet my consultant sent me it says 2 healthy a and 2 healthy b. Nothing about extra syns either. I'll have to check with her.

I'd left but I’ve rejoined at 28 weeks pregnant. Started properly today.

Treaclepie19 · 18/07/2020 16:14

Just realised that the app now works out your extra healthy extras and things when you put that you're pregnant so I'm going to stick to 2 a and 2 b and 15 syns as that's what it says.

WhoUsedMyName · 19/07/2020 22:00

Hello I was just about to start my own thread then I came across this I'm hoping to start sw tomorrow in 15 weeks pregnant. I'm really out of touch with see haven't been for two years and have gained three stone 😳

WhoUsedMyName · 19/07/2020 22:01

*i'm 15 weeks and i'm out of touch with slimming world. Silly auto correct!
