TRIGGER WARNING - MISSCARRIAGE Need a little rant

I’m 5 weeks 4 days. I started to get spotting about a week ago. At first it was red blood when I wiped, day after some brown spotting, seems to settled then had a bit more dark red blood (enough to need to change a party liner).

I have booked a private 6 weeks scan.

I rang 111 and spoke to a Dr who said see how you go and pee on a stick in two weeks.

I just feel really down. I haven’t had heavy bleeding so not 100% conclusive, but also I understand it’s not a positive sign.

I know in other countries they’ll do bloods over 2 days or scan you just to see.

It’s torment now.😞

Such an awful feeling. I hope you get good news at your scan. Sending you love cx

Thank you for your kindness :)

Best wishes for your scan.

I had a MC at 10 weeks earlier this year and I felt like the health professionals were completely disinterested although I did get a scan. I went to A&E when I started bleeding (I called the maternity ward who advised me to go to A&E as they didn't deal with women under a certain number of weeks gestation) who then arranged a scan for the following day. So if you're still bleeding I would give your local maternity ward a call and ask what they would advise.

All to best to you.

HogDogKetchup · 17/07/2020 14:27

Thanks Hypernova. I am still spotting a week on.

I’m sorry about your mc. I agree there’s a level of disinterest.

So sorry you have to wait, it's very tough Flowers in the circs you should rant away

ivfdreaming · 17/07/2020 17:15

I've had 5 miscarriages and even though I'm a patient at a miscarriage clinic they aren't doing scans at the moment either due to covid unfortunately. I've been told sooo many times EPU aren't that interested because there really is zero they can do. Blood tests aren't routinely done either because they can't really tell you much - I've had perfect hcg levels and still miscarried or had an ectopic.

I know it can feel very lonely and isolating and the worry is crippling

EllieJai44 · 17/07/2020 18:12

I've had 3 miscarriages and each time I've been yold the same thing- unfortunately there isn't anything anyone can do, and time really is the only way to tell- I've had scans where I've been bleeding but baby has been there with a heartbeat and then a week later, baby has gone- i have had the blood tests where my levels increased great- I still miscarried at 9 and half weeks, its the hardest thing anyone could go through and I know it feels like no one will help you but in the nicest way possible there isn't anything that can be done

Sorry youre going through this and hope you have good support at home! Fingers crossed that its just a bit of normal bleeding and things will be great at your scan

Sallyjo27 · 17/07/2020 18:24

I’ve had 3 miscarriages, have your rang your Gp? I had no joy with my midwife or early pregnancy unit but I rang my gp and they were brilliant called me in straight away for bloods. It’s horrible being in limbo and I’m so sorry your going through this x

HogDogKetchup · 17/07/2020 18:53

Thanks everyone for your support.

@Sallyjo27 I haven’t rang my GP. Thanks for the tip. I will do Monday.

I’m so sorry for all your losses too.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have one healthy child, my pregnancy first time was completely hassle free which has made this even more alarming. I suspect this is a little life not destined for this world 😞

@HogDogKetchup so sorry your going through this right now. Just wanted to let you know about my experience. I am 13 weeks pregnant and have been bleeding for the last 8 weeks, started as spotting, then got heavier, at around 10 weeks i had a really bad gush of blood resulting in an ambulance ride to a&e and have had brown/red bleeding since. Amazingly there is still a strong little baby fighting away, I had my NHS 12 week scan this week and all is well. Just told that sometimes its one of these things. So don't lose help just yet, if your not having pain and losing big clots (although I did even lose some) it may not be the worst just yet. Have you rung your EPU? Sometimes you can self refer and they will scan you. When is your private scan? Take care of yourself x

HogDogKetchup · 17/07/2020 20:16

Thanks so much @NannyGR

I haven’t had any heavy bleeding, nor any clots. I feel it’s about 70:30 and not in my favour but who knows.

My scan is Tuesday, so not too long to wait. I am feeling very unsettled.

I know you can still bleed and have a healthy pregnancy though.

So glad your pregnancy is going well, thanks so much for sharing.

Hi OP, this doesn’t sound like terribly bad news to me. I have three children and with two of them I bled in early pregnancy, around seven and nine weeks - I was absolutely terrified but when I spoke to EPU they did say no clots / cramps was positive and I did have more blood than you are describing. Very best of luck.

HogDogKetchup · 17/07/2020 20:34

Thanks @Goodebe I am torturing myself. I hope my experience turns out to be similar to yours.

I'm, currently 8+3 weeks and just had fresh red blood when I wiped last night after using the loo. No cramps or clots and it's gone a brown colour now fading off. I'm going to call doc tomorrow to try and arrange an appointment for a scan with EPU. Got a private scan booked for 28th but I can't wait that long! So scared! Still feeling sick though, but that could just be from worry!

welshladywhois40 · 19/07/2020 14:55

I agree - provision of care for miscarriage in this country is very poor. With my second pregnancy I have a mmc confirmed with a private scan at 10 weeks as I was concerned. They confirmed no heartbeat and it was going to take a week for epu to fit me in. I know it's not directly their fault but the funding or care is just not there.

I remember with my first I had spotting at 14 weeks, went to gp who said there was nothing he could do. Go home and wait!

But the care is there if you can pay. I have private medical care with work and with both of my miscarriages - the day I called my insurance provided - they were able to get my an appointment same day with a consultant to be scanned and start a care plan.

So yes I understand the rant and I agree care is very poor for this

HogDogKetchup · 19/07/2020 17:49

@welshladywhois40
I have private medical and it didn’t even occur to me. I’ll have a look and see if pregnancy is covered.

OP posts:
ivfdreaming · 19/07/2020 21:58

@HogDogKetchup

I'd check your policy wording as mine is very clear that pregnancy isn't covered. The only thing which was was surgical treatment of ectopics - although I've had two both requiring emergency surgery because I was admitted via ambulance there wasn't really the time to bother with ringing the insurers and I was only in for 1 night on both anyway (I did get £100 cheque from the insurers for staying in an NHS hospital though)

NannyGR · 20/07/2020 10:32

@HogDogKetchup how are you doing??

HogDogKetchup · 20/07/2020 10:49

Hi Nanny, I’ve started bleeding much more heavily this morning. I’ve needed to change a pad after an hour and a half and it’s a definite flow. As I’m now 6 weeks to the day the GP had arranged a scan for me tomorrow. I think it’s pretty conclusive now but I will be glad to have a scan and have it confirmed. It’s now 9 days on from my first spotting, which has stopped and started, so I feel like I’ve been in limbo.
My GP did suggest doing bloods if they wouldn’t see me for a scan - I said I can’t just wait two more weeks and do a test.

@HogDogKetchup so pleased you are getting a scan tomorrow, what time is it? They may well still do bloods depending on what they find with the scan, thats what they did for me. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Take care and will be thinking of you x

hypernova · 21/07/2020 00:14

All the best for the scan @HogDogKetchup. I'm hoping it's still good news for you. Thinking of you Thanks

HogDogKetchup · 21/07/2020 06:43

Thank you both. It’s this afternoon. I’ve been bleeding quite heavily now so pretty sure I’ve miscarried. I’m upset but kind of relieved for it to finally be here. The stopping and starting has been really upsetting.
My husband was looking on the bright side and I think it’s just hit him now. 😞
