Brown discharge after internal ultrasound

Hi all,

I went for a private scan yesterday due to suffering a MMC in March. Everything was fine, they put me at 8 weeks and 6 days and we could see baby and heartbeat which was incredible! I felt really great afterward.

Today I have experienced some slight brown discharge when I wipe. Nothing in my underwear and only a little but it brought the anxiety back.

Is it something that happens to some people after an internal scan? Has anyone else experienced it? I read somewhere that it can depending on the sensitivity of the cervix so I'm trying to keep myself calm and look at my scan photo to remind myself it was ok yesterday!

Brown blood is usually old blood, so could have just shifted that. I bled after intercourse in pregnancy, I have a sensitive cervix, so could just be a slight sensitivity. Always worth a call to your midwife if you're worried though

@Sowalk Firstly congratulations and sorry for your previous loss. I suffered a MMC back in 2017 so I understand what an emotional rollercoaster it is when you conceive again. The discharge could just be because your cervix was irritated when they scanned you or it could just be a coincidence it happened the day after your scan.

I had brown discharge at 8/9 weeks in this pregnancy and touch wood everything is absolutely fine with baby so far. I did loads of googling and apparently brown discharge is very common in early pregnancy and is usually just old blood leaving your body.

Good luck and I’m sure everything is fine with baba, remember every pregnancy is different. I went onto have a perfect healthy daughter following my MMC so try to relax and enjoy.
