Round ligament pain at 6 weeks??

Hi all,

For a few days now it hurts when I sneeze, or otherwise tense the muscles in my stomach. It's a sharp pain on the right side of my belly, low down. I recognise it from my first pregnancy but I'm sure I didn't have it this early. It doesn't help that when I googled it, round ligament pain is supposed to start from the second trimester, which makes sense because my uterus probably hasn't grown very much at all yet! So I'm just wondering if anyone else has similar pains this early as well?

Thanks Smile

Yep I had it starting then too. Not fun!

MahamChoudhury · 12/07/2020 00:49

Mine started around 8 weeks. Still going strong.

MsFrog · 12/07/2020 06:54

I had it from 5 weeks, really severe. I went to see an Obs&Gynae physiotherapist, who said it's actually most commonly a problem in the 1st and 3rs trimesters! Mine calmed down as I got a bit further in, and learned how to/how not to move. Hopefully yours will calm down too, OP.

Foggymist · 12/07/2020 06:59

It was my first symptom on both pregnancies, before I even missed a period.

Qwertyguerty · 12/07/2020 07:06

My miracle solution for it was runner's tape around my lower belly.

If you google it alongside round ligament pain there should be diagrams. But originally I found it on IG under the hashtag #roundligamentpain.

Took the excruciating pain away instantly. It was so bad I'd lie crying on the so far for most of the day

Thanks very much for everyone's replies! That's interesting MsFrog, thanks. Something to look into if things get worse, it's still bearable at the moment.

Thanks also Quertyguerty, I'll look into that as well, I have a friend who also used them and found them helpful, she could show me how! Smile

It's just reassuring to know others have this so early too!

Hey there!
I know that this thread is a month old but I want to take my chances. I’m about 5 weeks pregnant and I’m the hospital under watch for ectopic pregnancy. It’s too early to see where the baby is, but I have intermittent, excruciating pain in my lower abdomen that hurts to touch, and a lot of pressure. It reminds me of the round ligament pain I had early on with my daughter (back in 2012) and I’m looking for some hope that I’m not going to lose my baby. Did anyone have this and it turned out to be normal stretching and nothing serious? The part where it hurts to touch and I have painful pressure when I sit on the toilet is really puzzling the doctors.
Thank you 😊

@Stinkybandz hello! I'm just wondering how everything turned out for you? I hope ok! I'm currently at about 6+5 and have a dull ache on my left knicker line, no other symptoms besides on off cramping since my positive result. Am a first time mum and worry so much everything I feel is going to be a symptom of ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage or something else that's bad! This ache is worrying me as had it the past day now

Sophia889 · 06/02/2021 16:43

Although I've been advised it could just be stretching pains

Stinkybandz · 06/02/2021 22:01

@Sophia889 It ended up being ectopic :( the baby was attached to my left ovary and I was bleeding out internally- had emergency surgery the night I posted this. The pain was terrible, the worst pain I’ve ever had in my life, but it was intermittent. I had a lot of painful, pressure in my rectum when I sat on the toilet to pee. Aches and pains in early pregnancy are totally normal, unless it’s terrible pain I wouldn’t worry too much. Even when I wrote this comment I knew something was wrong. I was just hoping I’d get to keep my baby. I was in so much pain I was doubled over and barely made it downstairs to have my husband take me to the ER. Congratulations on your new baby, Mama!!! I hope your pregnancy is wonderful!

Sophia889 · 06/02/2021 22:29

@Stinkybandz oh I'm so so sorry to hear this and for what you went through. It must have been and awful experience, glad you had your husband there to support you. Thank you for taking the time to reply, the dull ache has eased slightly and I'm trying not to worry as I can't change anything that might or might not happen! I'm just keeping everything crossed, all goes ok 😊 I hope everything works out well for you x

My round ligament pain always starts at 4-5 weeks on both sides. It is my first symptom of pregnancy. Similar to another person who commented, it’s how I know I’m pregnant even before a missed period. The internet and the docs aren’t always right—your pregnancy is your own.

Alylynn612 · 09/12/2022 22:15

Hey I am 6 weeks now with similar occasional pain on my right side. It's very dull . Obviously it worries me this is my first pregnancy. I'm just wondering how it turned out for you?

Stinkybandz · 10/12/2022 02:16

Alylynn612- my post here ended in an ectopic pregnancy, it was excruciating pain though. Unbearable. I knew something was terribly wrong, I was on here grasping at straws bc I was so heartbroken and just trying to find some hope. Since then I had my second baby (third pregnancy), he’s 9 months old now. I had tons of cramping with my pregnancy with him, so much that I was scared quite often that I was miscarrying. But everything was normal and it was just stretching pain. My oldest is 10 years old and I had TONS of cramping in the first trimester with her too, and all was fine.
congratulations !!!!

I didn't want to read and run!

I experience this when I cough, sneeze, stretch or even laugh! I believe it's normal and when I move the pain goes. This is my second pregnancy. My DD is 8 so for me this is like a first pregnancy again as I can't really remember last time!

I'm just trying to relax and chill and what will be will be. Flowers
