Angel care monitor - first 6 months

I was planning on using an Angel care monitor once my baby goes into their nursery after 6 months. I've had a couple of people recently however say it should be used from birth? This seems a bit unnecessary when the baby will be sleeping right beside me in a crib? What do you think? Is a monitor needed for the first 6 months?

I have an Angel care monitor with the movement pad. My DD is a week old. We have it set up for the movement pad only at the moment for reassurance. I agree that you don't need the sound and video while you are in the same room.

As soon as she gets to the stage where she is going down for naps and i'm leaving her on her own on the crib I'll be using the sound and video monitor. Hopefully this will be before 6 months.

I've purchased the Snuza Hero MD instead of the Angel Care. It is only a movement/breathing sensor and clips onto the nappy so you don't have to worry about baby rolling off x

The Lullaby Trust has a very balanced fact sheet on movement monitors which you might find useful.

There’s no evidence that they prevent SIDS. The reason for the advice to keep baby with you for the first six months is so that they can mimic your breathing, which the mat can’t help with.

I used one from birth. I knew it wouldn't prevent SIDs, but I wanted to be alerted straight away if anything happened.
