Hi,

I had a lot of cramping and pain last week so went to maternity assessment they noticed I was having contractions but was only 1cm and cervix was still long and far back but they kept me in as I was 2 days away from week 37. So still classed as premature. It all stopped the day I turned 37 weeks. Then on Sunday I lost my mucas plug at 3pm and had contractions that got regular and stronger all day/ night since. I went back to Maternity Assessment and they checked me. I was 2cm dilated but cervix was still far back. They gave me pain relief and the contractions died off. Today I'm still in a lot of pain getting cramps but no regular contractions. I know I still have 2 weeks till my due date but with 2 false starts like this I am so disappointed.

My 1st labour started at 39+2 with a sweep. I had my DS 24 hours after the sweep. So I have never experience this.

Any advice welcome 🙏 x

Your body is definitely working towards the birth. I know it will feel disheartening, but these are all good signs!
If you feel up to it go for a long walk or stay as active as possible.
Watch a funny film sat on your birthing ball.
Do things you enjoy. Your baby will be on it’s way xx

I had this with my first! Its called prodromal labour. Real contractions, but not properly dilating. It started for me at 37+4 and I finally had DS1 at 40+6...

I basically had 24 -48 hours of contractions every 3 days for a month. Bloody knackering and it really undermined my confidence that my body knew what it was doing. Especially with my first. But we got there in the end! My labour proper was still long (4 days) but I had DS with no complications or intervention. I did have a sweep at 40+5 because I had just had yet another round of contractions just stopping. It restarted the contractions and DS finally arrived.

He was in an awkward position and my contractions were actually never regular, even at 8 cm.
