ECV with anterior placenta - any experiences?

Hi all,

I'll be 37 weeks pregnant tomorrow and a presentation scan in the hospital confirmed what I already knew - the baby is in a breech position again.

The baby was breech at 32 weeks, then turned head down, but changed to transverse and then to breech again.

I have to call the hospital tomorrow at 10 am and they will likely book me in for an ECV. I mentioned today at the appointment that I have an anterior placenta, but the midwife said it wasn't an issue and they can still do the procedure.

I really want to avoid a c-section, but I also don't want to hurt my baby with an ECV. I don't care if the ECV is uncomfortable for myself, but hurting the baby with an ECV would be terrible.

What were your experiences with an ECV, especially if you have an anterior placenta?

Thanks for any advice.

xx

Hi OP I had an ECV last week with an anterior placenta. I was very concerned too but wanted to give it a go to try and avoid c section. It was unsuccessful for me sadly and it did hurt a little but just remember that you are in control and the doctors will stop if you ask them too. Both myself and baby were monitored for 30/40 mins before and after the procedure. It did feel very safe and even though it didn’t work for me, I don’t have any regrets about giving it a go. I was extremely anxious beforehand but I put my trust in the professionals in the end.
