Left pelvic pain at 6 weeks - ectopic pregnancy?

Hi ladies, I am 6 weeks pregnant with baby number 1 and as such don’t know what’s considered normal and what isn’t. I have had some discomfort on my left side of my pelvis today, almost like a dull throbbing. Anytime I went to lay down on my left side I couldn’t due to strong discomfort. I have been feeling nauseous now for two days and then end up being sick in the evening. I have my book in appointment soon so feel like I shouldn’t call my midwife just yet, but I’m worried. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes I did. I’m so sorry but I can’t remember what GP said it was but I do remember he said it was very common and nothing to worry about. I did go in for an early scan to check before being told this as I was worried about ectopic but all was fine.

I was told with ectopic it’s common to get pain in your shoulder tip and you can see some reddening around where your Fallopian tube would be.

If you’re very worried then just to put your mind at rest get an early scan but it seems to be quite normal. A few of my friends said they experienced similar.

All the best.

Hi, sorry you're worrying. I had some one sided pain at about 7 weeks in my first pregnancy and I was also worried. I went to the emergency unit at the maternity hospital and they scanned me - everything was fine. I would recommend you go and get checked if you are worried. 6 weeks may be too early to see a heartbeat but they should be able to see if the gestational sac is forming in your uterus or if there is something in one of your tubes. Seriously don't worry about getting checked or overreacting - it's worth it during the early days when you don't know what is normal and feel anxious.

I went for a scan at 7 weeks due to this and there was a big fuck off cyst on my left ovary. It’s gone now and I’m almost 38 weeks, but it was bloody sore!!

I have had an ectopic pregnancy. The pain was unbearable. I know every case is different but for me the pain came from nowhere and was intense. I had no feelings of discomfort before - it was a shock.
Hope that is helpful

I remember when I was about 7 weeks pregnant with DS and had cramps on one side, I was petrified it was happening again. I had an early scan due to previous ectopic to make sure he was in the right place. Think the midwife put it down to normal early pregnancy stretching. If no bleeding, shoulder tip pain or previous ectopic, they probably won't do an early scan - especially with covid. You could try calling EPU to ask for their advice or even speak to your GP.
