Fundal height 35cm at 31+ 4? Worried...

I went to hospital at 31+4 for quite odd contractions. I was discharged later on that evening, they said they were likely BH. It was not my chosen birth hospital but just my local one, so not my usual midwife. They recorded my bump as 35cm (it was 28cm at 28 weeks).
How worrying is this? I feel absolutely massive, and I have horrendous heartburn and breathlessness that’s come on in the past week...

I wouldn’t worry about it, if they were concerned at the hospital they would have said something about it x

I wouldn’t worry.

I’m quite fat so mine has never been measured.

Thanks ladies, I’m just worried because the hospital I attended is renowned for being more than useless. I’m really tall though, I would have thought that would mean the bump is more spread out! I’m trying not to worry but I reach 32 weeks tomorrow and I just feel so horrendous, MS back and heartburn x

Can you call your community midwife tomorrow if you’re worried x

I measured 29cm at 31 weeks and 35cm at 34 weeks, I know these dates are further along than yourself but they trigger a growth scan for me as it put us on the 97th, baby was scanned and is averaging on the 60th.

I have no faith in fundal. I had a growth scan at 31 weeks too as between 28 and 31 I'd only grown 1cm (apparently) and baby was still scanning on the 60th. I know I'm not a doctor but I feel like there are too many outside factors to fundal.
Had you eaten?
Did you need the bathroom?
Have you started to swell? My cankles are lovely!
Had baby moved positions compared to the last measurement?

Also,it was a different midwife who measures you, so a complete stab in the dark. Every time I see my midwife and we do this it's "do you think this is your public bone, or is it here?" "Is this the top of your uterus, oh wait, is this it"

I don't know. It could just be me but I don't thinks it's very reliable.

I wouldn't stress x

Fundal height is only seen as reliable if it's the same midwife doing it I believe! And it's more of a screening measurement than an accurate one, it's something for them to use to determine if people need growth scans.
I think lots of people start to feel rubbish last 30 weeks, but as PP have said if you're really concerned then you need to call your midwife.

Definitely don’t worry ! At 24 weeks my bump was measuring perfect on track . At 28 weeks I was measuring 31. I was like wtf? I did feel huge though . I was always measuring big but baby was born an average size .

In my last pregnancy I was very high risk so had a scan every Monday and a check up with my midwife or consultant every Thursday. My baby did all kinds of gymnastics and was in a different position for each scan. I found that each time he was breech, oblique or transverse I measured ahead and when he was head down I measured behind on the fundal. There was one week that my fundal measurement was 4cm behind but the scan estimated the weight to be 95th centile. So from my experience, it’s not something to worry about but it might be sensible to see if you can be sent for a growth scan to put your mind at rest.

My fundal was 37cm at 32 weeks, I had a growth scan and they estimated my daughter to be around 6lbs. I had her at 38 + 2 weighing 9lbs 3!
Don't worry, we were both completely healthy - I was just very uncomfortable! ☺️
