Isolating before your c section

So I know a few ppl going in for general surgery and investigation they are having to completely isolate for 2 weeks prior.... Is this the same for sections at all?

Folks, the OP asked a question... There is no suggestion whatsoever that she is intending to do anything other than follow the guidance... That was just one poster on a wind-up mission

And people wonder why the hospital are still restricting birthing partners and visitors and saying no to partners at scans etc?

There are unfortunately some very selfish people around who are more than happy to lie and put everyone else at risk because, of course, they are far more important with their wild conspiracy theories than the safety of any of the staff or other mums and newborns.

Dear me. What is wrong with people?

Anaesthetist83 · 02/07/2020 23:36

In answer to the OP’s question:

Yes, most obstetric units are asking people to shield for 14 days prior to an elective section.

No where has anyone suggested the OP won’t do this. Sadly others have and the importance of this shouldn’t be ignored.

sel2223 · 02/07/2020 23:40

OP, i am having an ELCS in 5 weeks and am fully expecting to be asked to shield.

Mums to be aren't being asked to wear a mask and the midwives/surgeons/obstetricians etc are being exposed to body fluids etc during the operation so I think it's the least we can do.

LusciousV · 02/07/2020 23:43

I had a c section 3 weeks ago and self isolation was never mentioned to me. It wasn't requested, expected or deemed necessary (I'm in Scotland).

EnlightenedOwl · 02/07/2020 23:48

Its totally impracticable and unnecessary.

Anaesthetist83 · 02/07/2020 23:52

And your qualifications to comment on this are?!?

SockQueen · 02/07/2020 23:53

Currently working in obstetric anaesthetics. All our women booked for ELCS are asked to self-isolate for 2 weeks, and have a Covid swab done 2/3 days before surgery. Obviously different trusts may vary but this is not an overreaction or something worth lying about (though I appreciate the OP wasn't suggesting doing so).

And yes, very common to refer to "starving"/"fasting" pre-op. And it's horrid when people lie about that too.

breakfastclubb · 02/07/2020 23:53

@EnlightenedOwl

Just say you've done it x
Every time this comes up you’re there encouraging people to lie. Do you not have anything better to do?
DisobedientHamster · 03/07/2020 00:22

@Anaesthetist83

Starved for theatre is a commonly used term.

Anyway, I am glad you won’t be on the labour ward near me anytime soon.

Me, too! I'm 50 and haven't had a period in 2 years.

Well I don't know yours. You could be anyone professing to be something you're not
Avearage · 03/07/2020 10:53

It's fairly amusing how some people find Time to be so argumentative!!

CaramelWaferAndTea · 03/07/2020 10:53

What a rotten person @EnlightenedOwl is.

If you are unable to, please confess. Maternity isn’t entirely ‘green’ due to emergency operations so you can have the CS elsewhere with appropriate precautions; most caesareans are necessary and can’t be delayed too long. Look at the rcog information for women.

ACatCalledLola · 03/07/2020 11:02

Thank you @Anaesthetist83 and @SockQueen. I will keep an eye on the information closer to the time but it looks like I will need to take my elder dc out of school for a couple of weeks beforehand so it’s good to be prepared.
I can’t decide if @EnlightenedOwl is completely stupid, selfish or just trying to wind people up. I suspect a combination of all three With stupidity being the dominant force. I hope anyone coming to this thread completely ignores them.

BabyG123 · 03/07/2020 11:16

@Avearage what have you started here 🤣
In other news if I have to isolate for 14 days before I'll have a peaceful Christmas for once!!!!

@EnlightenedOwl clearly a cat fish looking for a rise 🙄

Avearage · 03/07/2020 17:39

Definitely @BabyG123!!
Im just planning incase I end up with a section so I've got everything in before I find myself manic online shopping 😂, so if I have to have a section I've 2 weeks less to play with 😂
