I am 9 weeks pregnant, baby stoped growing at 6 weeks, no heartbeat found in week 7. I am offered to get the abortion pill today. I am very scared to do it because I read almost never the abortion pill completely cleans it all, than you must go for d and c... I am worried because d and c can leave scar tissue ...
What are your experiences with the pill? do you suggest natural wait and let nature do it, there is no option to go straightly to d and c in Italy, they give the pill than if it dont pass you go to surgery... I am inclined to wait but worried for infections, and all the things that can go wrong with it.

I once waited for three weeks to pass naturally and I once took a pill (misopristol or something like that?). It was mentally a bit hard to wait 3 weeks but after I passed it I was done. With the pill one I probably retained some tissue and kept contracting till the night before I had to go to hospital to check/have d&c.

So your choice: the mentally hard wait or the possibility of a physical problem? I really can'f advise you here, I hated both.

Can waiting cause an infection? I've never heard that before actually and it wasn't part of my though process at the time.

Thank you very much for writing... the doctor told me that unviable pregnancy tissues can cause infection. I got an antibiotic prescription to prevent this...I don't really mind waiting as long as I will pass everything naturally. I read hundreds of pages in google and I saw very few who got the pill without needing a follow up d and c after the pill...

I have had several mmc's and undergone all options. If I had another one I would 100% go for surgery straight away. I found the drugs awful and had to take codeine (I had a mastectomy 6 years ago and only took paracetamol after, so consider I am quite good with pain) and then it didn't work and I had to have surgery anyway.
Hope it all works out for you, and really sorry for your loss x

I had a mmc and waited for it to happen naturally but still didn’t pass everything straight away. There’s no guarantees with either option. I had to wait another week after mmc for all tissue to pass which it did but if it didn’t I would have had to have a d&c as well.

I’m sorry you are going through this

Sorry for your loss Thanks

My understanding is that the effectiveness of the pill depends a bit on how far along you were - the earlier the better. I had an MMC at 8+5 and took the pill. I think all in all they gave me the pill 3 times but it did absolutely nothing, I barely even bled. So in the end I had D&C because that was the only option. It was absolutely fine and surprisingly straightforward and from what I've read from others' posts in the past, most have preferred D&C. Sure, it has its risks but so does every surgery.

Good luck with whatever you decide x

I an sorry for your loss. After my mmc I had the pill, haemorrhaged and ended up with an emergency d&c, still had retained tissue and had 3 months of issues. If had ever needed one again I would have gone surgical straight away.

Sorry you're going through this, it's so awful. I had medical management (pills) and it worked for me, I didn't need a d&c. I really wanted to avoid the surgery as I didn't want the risk of scarring as my pregnancy was IVF so the odds were already against me. Good luck with what you decide.

I went with medical abortion. I was in the hospital for 2 nights. I had mifepristone and misoprostol treatments. I passed all the pregnancy tissues and the thickness of endometium is 10 mm, at tonights scan. They gave me antibiotics and a drug called methergin.
The misprostol was not super painful, the cramps were like a heavy period but the drug overall is a heavy one. I wish no experience a missed miscarriage. I thank for all you supports and wishing you all the bests Flowers
