Anyone else on here going back to work early? I’m self employed and run a business. OH gets a great deal in work so we only lose £300 a month by me going back to work so he is taking over after 3 months. Anyone else done this? Or any tips on how to make the transition as smooth as possible? Thanks!

I plan to go back after 9 or 10 months, overlapping for 6 weeks with my husband, and then he’ll do 2 more months at home with the baby.

The male friends of mine who have done this have a noticeably different relationship (compared to those dads I know who haven’t) with their kids as a result, and I’m hoping that will be one of the upsides for us, too.

I am planning to go back after under 4.5 months, 4 months is my company paid leave and half a month of holidays I accumulated, then my husband will take over for the next 4.5 months.
I make more than my husband and he also gets some extra money on top of statutory pay from his company, so similar to you, the loss is way legg if he takes over.
It makes more sense financially, and I love the idea of the two of us taking equal responsibility, having equal time to bond with the baby and sharing the ‘career risk’.
Even if it was not a financial benefit I would still have done it this way, but its a personal thing I guess.

I’m planning on taking 9 months and then my husband will take a month - he gets SPP only, so we can’t afford more than that, but we felt that it’s important that he has some time to care for and bond with his son too

I'm planning on taking 9 months, then he will take 3. I've got a lot of leave so probably will be off nearer 10 months but I want him to have some time off on his own with our baby.
