Advice from anyone who was a regular spotter before AF and got a BFP

Hi

So I usually spot for 3,4 or even 5 days before AF, I am due on Thursday my cycles are around 27-29days. On Saturday (10dpo) I had a tiny bit of pink when I wiped and thought here comes the spotting and later that day a little bit of brown thought nothing of it until the next day there was nothing and today There was a wee pink gloop when I wiped and I do feel like AF is on its way with all the little cramps I’m getting. I was just wondering for those who did get their BFP (big fat positive) and were prone to spotting before af, did the spotting appear on the month you got your BFP (big fat positive). I have a couple of frers but don’t want to test until I know af is late.

Be good to hear if spotters get bfp too or if I’ll need help.

Hello @timetotry123 I had spotting throughout my cycle for about 6 months before I got my BFP, and was exploring why this was with the doctors (eg had another smear test, had a TV ultrasound) and then got my BFP. I initially didn’t think I was pregnant because I had spotting as usual, and only tested when AF didn’t arrive after spotting, and was definitely late?

I would wait a few days until AF is late and then take a test? Good luck! Worth saying I also had spotting for the first few months and at 19 weeks baby seems to be fine 🙂

@Wise0wl Thank you for your reply, it’s good to know that it is still possible Smile I’ll wait 2 more cycles and then ask the doc to investigate. I had 21 day bloods and they were fine. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy Smile

I usually have spotting for 3 days before AF. With both pregnancies I got spotting again a few days before I was due so assumed it was AF arriving but then it stopped and no AF. Got a BFP so figured it was implantation spotting. Was very hard to differentiate though, but times I thought I was out and then was not.

Good luck!

Another success story Smile that’s great! I was just worried the spotting was what was stopping me from getting pregnant although it still could be but I’m a little less worried about it now, had a little bit of brown just now and feel quite cranky and heavy stomach so probably is AF but I can always hope, after 10 cycles it’s becoming very disheartening but I’ve just got to keep going.

No cranky ...crampy. Although oh might say otherwise lol.

I wouldn't think spotting stops you from getting pregnant - as far as I know plenty of people spot. What might matter more is the length of your luteal phase (spotting may reduce it). Mine is 8-11 days until I start spotting - I ovulate late around day 18-21 and have roughly a 31 day cycle.

sassenach84 · 24/06/2020 20:58

You can also try to lengthen your luteal phase - plenty of threads on MN on how to do that.

Hope you get lucky soon! X

My luteal phase is around 10-12. I phoned the doctor today and they aren’t concerned about the spotting at all but I just feel it’s an issue.

@timetotry123 I always spotted 3-5 days before AF and the month I got my BFP it started like usual about 5 days before (bright red as well!) but then tailed off after a couple of days rather than turning into full flow. That's what made me test.

Even if it could be IB, wait at least a few days before testing as it takes a little while for HCG levels to rise enough for a line to show on a test! Like the day after my spotting stopped I tested negative, then another couple of days later it was positive.

I googled the spotting issue loads when TTC. I read that vitamin B6 can help with spotting (and I did start taking it the month I got my BFP) although I'm not saying it defo works, but could be worth a try! I took 50mg a day.

Good luck x

Thank you so much for sharing it’s good to hear the success stories with spotting. I will give B6 a try, I’ll try anything now I’m desperate lol.

For me I usually started spotting on 12dpo with AF arriving 14/15 dpo apart from the month I got pregnant, I found out at 9dpo and when 12dpo came no spotting what so ever, I guess everybody is different x

Whiffle77 · 25/06/2020 10:07

I've been pregnant twice this year, and both times I thought I was out for the month as I spotted before like normal! All ok with this pregnancy so far (17 weeks) so I wouldn't necessarily say spotting means you aren't pregnant. But everyone experiences it differently!

Timetotry123 · 25/06/2020 10:34

Thank you for your replies, I’m due af today I think it’s likely to show up. I’ve been referred for tests at the hospital so hopefully it’s something that can be sorted. I’m going to get some b6 in the meantime I asked about progesterone cream but she told me to not mess with that just now so I’ll hold it on that. Every month is just so disheartening but just got to pick yourself up and get on with the next cycle.
