When do they check babys position if they are transverse or in breech?

I have a feeling my baby is in a transverse position because I have really bad rib pains and my stomach is really hard from the top and softer on the bottom and I feel him move on the time under my ribs not down below I am 34 weeks pregnant. When do they actually check to see and see if I need a c section or not ?

Does your midwife not feel baby during your appointments? They are the ones who would refer you for a presentation scan if they were worried that baby was breech.

Yeah she felt the baby last time but didnt really say anything so I was just wondering I have an appointment tomorrow will ask her and see what she says maybe I am just feeling it and hes in a normal position

My son spent most of the time in my ribs, it was either his bum or his feet. He didn't engage until I was in labour so my bump never really dropped. I think the midwife probably would have mentioned it but a good idea to check at your next appointment Smile

@NishaaS123 well it’s only your midwife who would check, there’s no separate appointment just for this so you need to speak to her if you’re worried. After each appointment when they feel your tummy, they write in your maternity notes the position of baby - maybe have a look?

@twinklestars15 oh really? They write it down? I never knew that will definitely look at it now and i have an appointment with her tomorrow so will ask her about the babys position

@NishaaS123 are you in the UK? If so then yes, it’s in your notes along with your blood pressure, urine dip etc. Mine says ‘ceph’ which is short for cephalic, i.e. head down.

It would say where is says ‘presentation’ - but my midwife said she doesnt record it until 36 weeks as the baby can turn, mine is head down which i thought was a good thing but she said it can change between now and the birth!

OP, your name, address, date of birth and NHS number are on that - I would ask to have the photo removed!

I had my 32 week appointment last week and thought baby was transverse so she checked and he was head down in more of a diagonal position. The midwife wrote ceph under presentation on my notes, she did say they don't normally worry about position until the 36 week appointment though.

A right okay thanks ladies I have my 34 week appointment today so I guess she will check at the next appointment then x
