20 week scan after high NT - so worried

Hi Everyone,

I have my 20 week scan in 4 weeks but I’m petrified something could be wrong with my baby. I had a 3.8mm NT at my 12 week scan (which ultimately was measured at 2.6 - 3 the next day) but due to then being classed as high risk I had a CVS. Thankfully, after a horrible wait, everything came back normal and I began to bond with baby. Now I have had the letter for my 20 week anomaly and detailed heart scan I feel this worry coming back.

The high NT also makes baby at risk of heart complications. Usually they do this detailed scan at 16 weeks but mine was pushed back because of them trying to limit the amount of trips to hospital.

I guess I’m looking for some reassurance if any of you mamas could share some similar experiences... I desperately want everything to be ok

Sorry.....are you me?! I literally could have written this post!

I was given a measurement of 3.8mm NT at 12 weeks too, then at a consultant scan the next day, it measured 2mm! The consultant was fairly sure that the first reading was just plain wrong so I declined the CVS however we’ve had low risk Harmony results since.

I have my 20 week scan tomorrow and gets quite nervous. While I’m fairly sure it was a mistake, it was scary and enough to make me wary of this next scan.

If you’ve had a clear CVS, that’s a really good start. Yes, other issues could come up at the 20 weeks scan but hopefully not. Most people just come away with a normal scan and no problems so hopefully that’ll be us.

From what you’ve said, I don’t think you have any more reason to worry than anyone else. While high NTs can indicate heart problems etc, and while NTs can shrink, you measurement was only very slightly over the top normal range of 3.5mm and I doubt it shrank a whole mm overnight, so I wouldn’t be a surprised if your first reading was slightly off too.

Oh wow we are in similar circumstances. If ok with you would you share how your 20 week scan goes?

I really feel the hospital where I had my CVS thought the previous scan was wrong aswell but didn’t want to ‘drop them in it’. They had much better equipment and did a much more detailed scan and couldn’t get a reading anywhere near the 3.8mm. At my original scan I did have to go on a walk several time’s to even be able to get a measurement and I just feel it wasn’t right.

This may be a random question but did you experience any implantation bleeding? After all my hours scouring the net I found that there may be a connection between early bleeding and showing a slightly raised NT. I’m praying it was just that which has caused all this and baby is ok.

Sending all my prayers for a positive scan for you today x
