Hi all,

So my friend has just told me she is taking Omeprazole during her pregnancy and did in the last one, a few other friends also said they did this too.

I'm curious as I lived with pure acid reflux through my last pregnancy and medium reflux in my first and never took anything for either other than gaviscon.

I'm just very curious to see if any of you mommy's who took omperazole ended up having babys with reflux?

I did absolutely nothing different to my friends in my last pregnancy other than not take this and none of there babys had reflux and mine had it really bad!

I know it's a case of some get it some dont but I'm very intrigued, I've just yesterday found out I'm preg with my third and what will be my final baby and I'm already thinking when it reflux gets bad I need to get some!

I took ranitidine through my pregnancy. DS has reflux.

It's awful isnt it, my DS had it and cmpa and I would have have my arm to make it go away for him x

I took gaviscon only with my first and he had horrendous reflux. Ranitidine with the second and she also had bad (silent) reflux. So didn't seem to make a difference with mine.

I was swigging gaviscon from the bottle & my DS had awful silent reflux

I figured out my food triggers, turns out my son is also intolerant/ allergic to these things. My gut is a mess, so is that of my kids! Do your other kids have food allergies / intolerances? Might be worth considering avoiding these foods if they do even though there are differing opinions on whether this is the right approach or not. Also worth taking a multi strain probiotic and high quality fish oils.

Took omeprazole in both my pregnancies, from very early on. 1st DD had no digestive issues. 2nd DD CMPA and awful reflux (she was on omeprazole for her first year).

I have been taking omeprazole for years, and continued it through both my pregnancies. Neither of my babies had reflux though, just me!

nonicknameseemsavailable · 17/06/2020 19:41

I remember swigging gavsicon during pregnancy, especially with my eldest but I do remember taking some with the younger one.

Eldest had reflux and it continued for years as silent reflux poor kid but we didn't know. When she was 5-8ish she took an extra thick gaviscon daily but we manage it through diet now and I am sure her main improvement happened when we put her on probiotics.

Youngest never mentioned it, never had it as a baby either.

ToothFairyNemesis · 17/06/2020 19:43

Took omeprazole my baby did not have reflux.

Lamazey · 17/06/2020 19:46

I take omeprazole anyway and carried on taking it through two pregnancies, neither of them had reflux. I wasn't aware there was a connection

Bea21 · 17/06/2020 19:50

Seems like its deff not linked then! I've been researching as much as I can to see of there Is any evidence that avoiding things in pregnancy could help the baby not get reflux.

My dd who is now 8 had colic and my ds who is now 3 had reflux. His reflux was terrible and he was on omperazole and nexium for first 6-7 months ... I tried so many different ones as it just didn't sooth him. I woke up one day and it was gone along with his cmpa which was bizarre and I'm very grateful it went at that stage.
I'm now desperate not to have another reflux baby because seeing them in so much pain is just awful! But I guess time will tell x

Luckily DS has got better over time and it was never severe. He's on infant gaviscon now at 6 months and we're actually trying to take him off it at the moment. Before that was prescribed though it was awful, none of us got any sleep. I actually think it's a big part of the reason I couldn't breastfeed.

strawbmilk · 17/06/2020 20:43

DD I took Gaviscon during pregnancy and she had no reflux. Not even spit up.

I wondered why it was suggested you needed 10 - 15 muslin cloths

DS I took omeprazole and he had reflux but he grew out of it quickly (only one pack of baby gaviscon) but spits up all the time

Finally understood for all the muslins

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 17/06/2020 23:48

I took Omeprazole. DS had awful reflux.

I’ve been taking omeprazole daily for about 12 years now, but I’ve been advised by my GP to avoid taking it unless absolutely necessary. He didn’t mention a connection with baby getting reflux though.
