Will my midwife look at results of private scan (big baby)

Hi everyone,

Wondered if anyone had any experience with this, at my last appointment my fundal height was above 97th centile at 28 weeks.

I’ve booked a private scan tomorrow so I can see how big he’s estimated at, as to be honest it sent me into a bit of a panic 😂

I was just wondering if he is measuring really big am I best showing my midwife the results to request an nhs scan? I’m just a bit worried as a lot of people in my area have had growth scans cancelled due to covid and I’m worried it’ll get missed as my 31 week midwife appointment was cancelled and I was really hoping to be measured again for my own peace of mind.

I do have a feeling he’s going to be very big judging by his movements and what my tummy feels like, I’m only 5’ and DP is 6’3. Maybe I’m just over thinking things!

I have been tested for GD based on my fundal height which thankfully was negative.

Show your midwife the scan. She’s be a fool not to look at it. She may say the scan quality isn’t what she would expect, or that your baby is within normal limits or whatever, but I don’t think any rational professional would just pretend the scan didn’t exist.

And if she does, I’d request another midwife.

Show her for sure. If she looks that’s fine. If not you tried.

Is it your first baby? At 5ft with a tall husband, your bump is going to be huge even if you have an average weight baby. There is nowhere else for it to go except outwards! That was definitely the case for me and my bump was bigger with number 2 even though his older brother weighed 1.5lbs more.

Have fun at your scan but don’t overthink things too much.

Hey, just thought I'd offer some reassurance! So I am also dead on 5ft and partner is 6ft 1. My fundal height measurements were reaching the very top line on the growth chart. I booked a private scan Wednesday just gone (at just over 31 weeks) they measured baby and he's just below the 50th percentile line, he weighed 1755grams which is 3lb 13lbs.

I've since had another scan today due to checking of the placenta as it was covering os at 20 week scan and they also done baby's measurements and NHS scan also say he's just below the 50th percentile line and they expect him to weight around 7.5lbs when he's born! I know scans aren't accurate but it definetly rested my mind a little! Good luck with your scan, enjoy x
