No fetal pole at 6 weeks positive stories?

Beating myself up for having an early scan now!

I've put myself at 6+1, had a scan this morn and they could see gestational sac + yolk sac and all looked great except there was no fetal pole detected. They said I'm probably not as far along as I think I am and to come back in 2 weeks, said they weren't concerned but to watch out for any pain or bleeding. Not sure if they were just being kind.

They noticed my sickness bands on my wrist and commented that I'm clearly having symptoms and to not worry about it but these 2 weeks are going to be really hard!!

Wish I had just waited until my 12 week scan now

Does anyone have any positive stories? I'm such an anxious fairy.

Sorry I don’t have any direct experience of this but didn’t want to read and run! 6 weeks is SO early, when I booked my early scan I read lots of things that said you MAY be able to see the heart beat at 6 weeks at the earliest, but it was really common not to be able to that soon. I think it’s unlikely they were reassuring you just to be nice, as it’s their job to be honest, so I think they genuinely thought it’s just too early to be sure. I really feel for you though as I get what a horrible 2 weeks it will be having to wait. I hope it all turns out ok

Hi yes! I had this! Had a normal cycle mid Jan, found out I was pregnant just over a week later, had an early scan due to having a normal cycle, saw sac and pole but no heartbeat. They weren't too concerned and 2 weeks later a scan picked up the heartbeat. I am now 24+1 with a healthy baby girl 💕 x

Troubledmummy3 · 12/06/2020 16:10

Sorry meant to say gestational sac and yolk sac! There was no fetal pole/heartbeat when I was first scanned just what looked like a bubble within a bigger bubble! x

SunbathingDragon · 12/06/2020 16:11

Many EPUs won’t scan until seven weeks because of the likelihood of this happening and the worry it causes. Hopefully you will get reassuring news in a fortnight.

Peanut870 · 12/06/2020 16:23

Hey OP, hope you're ok!

I had a scan at 6-weeks (due to bleeding) and they could only see the gestational and yolk sacs.... no mention of fetal pole or heartbeat. It is usually very early to be able to detect a heartbeat. Had another scan at 8 weeks and they saw the heartbeat! I had our 12 week scan this week and baby is looking happy Grin

I understand how worrying it can be and waiting the 2 weeks is incredibly scary. Try and keep yourself distracted as much as possible!

Hope all goes well for you!

I had a very early scan at my EPU due to pain and falling pregnant again straight after a MC so they wanted to check there wasn't any problems.
I wasnt quite sure of dates due to the MC but thought around 6 weeks. I saw a gestational sack and yolk sack. I went back 2 weeks later (agree longest 2 weeks ever and mine was over Xmas!), and there was a strong heartbeat and I was measuring just over 7 weeks. Currently just over 31 weeks!
Good luck!

Hatscats · 12/06/2020 18:31

Yes at 6 weeks I had a yolk sac but no fetal pole. Went back 2 weeks later and little bean shaped baby was there with a little flickering heartbeat.

lydia771 · 13/06/2020 10:24

Thank you everyone. I've read nothing but positive stories so hoping I have the same outcome in 2 weeks! I'm feeling positive 😁 xx

It is very common for this to happen, don’t panic just go back in two weeks for reassurance. I had my first scan at 6 + 1 because I had a small amount of bleeding (in retrospect this was just implantation) and they couldn’t see the fetal pole yet. She was visible by 8 weeks and now I’m 20 weeks.

clareykb · 13/06/2020 10:31

Slightly different but at 7w scan only one of my twins was visible, they saw 1 fetal pole 1hb and 1 "empty sac" ...got a shock at the 12w scan ..!!..

sel2223 · 13/06/2020 10:36

It's pretty common for dates to be out in early scans....maybe you just ovulated a little later than you thought?
I had my first scan when i should have been 7+5 from LMP but baby only measured 6+1. She'd then caught up a week by my dating scan and I'm now 31 weeks.
Hopefully it's good news at your 2 week follow up.

ReturnofSaturn · 13/06/2020 10:39

Yep I had this, they couldn't even see a yolk or anything and only thought they could see a sac but weren't sure! A week and a half later it was all there and heartbeat heard.

This is probably pretty common.

sel2223 · 13/06/2020 10:39

I personally don't think they should do scans before 7/8 weeks unless there is an immediate medical need for this very reason.

ShutUpaYourFace · 13/06/2020 10:54

Hi OP, I went for an early scan as I'd had previously miscarried. I thought I was about 7/8 weeks but scan showed measurements at 6 weeks with no fetal pole. Pregnancy was not successful. My next i never went for early scan, we waited for 12 week scan to be told baby had died at 8 weeks. Both situations were horrendous but I would definitely rather know sooner than later. Sorry no positives other than I do have 2 Healthy little boys so after unsuccessful pregnancies there's still hope for everyone. Wishing you all the best.

Nelbert19 · 13/06/2020 10:58

I had a scan at 6+5 because of pain and there was only a gestational sac, no foetal pole.

I’m now 34 weeks and there’s definitely a Big healthy baby in there!

lydia771 · 24/06/2020 12:16

Just an update! Had a scan today and baby is there with a lovely heart beat - worry over!! ❤️

@Lydia771 fantastic news! Hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy! 🙂 xx

Congratulations!

This message of yours giving me ray of hope. I had scan yesterday 7w0d. Same ges sac and yolk sac, no baby. I have history of MC. And doc doesn't seem much positive. Asked for repeat USG next week. I had almost given hope. But it seems after your message, that hope is there. And its worth clinging to it.

lydia771 · 14/02/2021 12:46

@mom7575 hold out, I'm sure all will be fine, it's just too early!! If yolk sac is seen that's incredibly promising. Currently sat here with my 2 week old baby who was definitely there, just hiding xx

I don’t have personal experience of this, but I’ve seen so many posts on here from women who have scans so early and they get so worried. It’s a shame as I imagine it’s the anxious women who go for early scans. It seems to be quite common not to see heartbeat etc so early, so hopefully things can be confirmed in a few weeks. Sorry you’ve gone through this.

What was your outcome? Currently 2 days away from having my scan after my 2 week limbo x
Rose87777 · 17/03/2021 14:36

Also in this horrendous limbo after going for an early scan at what I have calculated to be 6+3. Gestational sac and yolk sac seen but no foetal pole. We were tracking ovulation (with digital clear blue monitor) so relatively certain of when that happened. Back for rescan 30/3!

Blondiebunch · 10/01/2022 21:33

May I ask what your outcome was?
Currently is same situation. Had TVS at 6+6. Yolk sac seen but no Fetal pole.
Repeat scan in two weeks and this week is just so awful
