Hi, my fiancé and I have decided to try for a baby, we are both 30 and feel like it's the right time. I've been on the pill for 14 years. I was wondering if anyone else had been on it that long but managed to fall pregnant and how long it took? Thank you

Hi OP. I'm 35 and been in the pill since I was 15 (20 years) and I came off the pill in September last year.
We didn't start TTC until the December and fell pregnant in the January.
I'd get yourself a period app and some ovulation sticks (I personally recommend CB digital) so you can track your cycle.
Good luck! 🥰🥰🥰

That's amazing! Thank you so much for your reply, I never thought about getting ovulation sticks but will definitely look into it. I've read other threads and people say it can take years so it's lovely to hear positive information thanks again

I'd been on the pill for about 8 years and got pregnant the first month off it.

Wow that's brilliant, thank you very much for replying. I know it might not happen straight away but I really want it to Smile

First month for me too! I'd been off it for 5 months before TTC

Thank you for replying, I'm so pleased it's possible to fall pregnant so quickly especially being on the pill for so long.

No worries. I did the SMEP method with ovulation sticks and used pressed. It worked Smile

*preseed

My advice would be not to start with ovulation sticks. Don’t put pressure on yourselves. Just see how you get on.
I was 9months TTC with my 1st pregnancy, and 1 month with my 2nd (3.5yrs apart) xx

I was on the pill for over 20 years.

It took us about 4 months to get pregnant. Had DS aged 39.

I was actually pregnant 3 times last year, but had 2 losses. Now 39 weeks pregnant with DD at 42.

I didn't take the pill on and off for that 20 years. I took it consistently, and tried several different ones. I'd never go back on it, as I never knew until I stopped how miserable it made me! Pretty sure it didn't affect my fertility though if you're concerned about that.

We didn't bother with apps, sticks or any of that. It is screamingly obvious to me when I'm ovulating now though 😬

Katbaby · 12/06/2020 08:21

I came off the pill in December I didn't start ovulating right away so I went 3 months without a period or anything, but fell pregnant before a period ever turned up in April 😊 so technically first go at it. I'm now nearly 12 weeks. Good luck!

Superscientist · 12/06/2020 09:05

13 years on the pill, stopped in August and got a positive test without actively trying at Christmas now 30 weeks.

It took 2 months for my cycle to get into a normal pattern and by December I knew my cycle my plan was to start actively ttc after Christmas but got the positive result in the meantime. I used a period tracking app to get an idea of what my cycles were doing and when to expect my period etc because I was so out of practice especially after 8 years of pretty much no periods when I was on the progesterone only pill.

I was on the combined pill for about 7/8 years, took a year break and went back on for a further 2/3 years. I stopped taking it in January and got pregnant in Feb!

Pumpkin108 · 12/06/2020 09:56

I was on combined pill for 10 years. Came off this February, found out I was pregnant in March! Now 18 weeks with baby girl :)

MamaFirst · 12/06/2020 09:57

These ladies above were very lucky, don't be discouraged if it takes you a few months to get back to normal. I wasn't on the pill anywhere near as long as you and and it still took 2 months to return to normal then conceived a couple of months after that. I recommend using an app to monitor your cycle first, before worrying about ovulation sticks. I really like Femometer app as I found the layout easy to follow. Good luck!

Hi everyone
Thank you so so much for all your information and advice. I really appreciate it, I had convinced myself it would take years because how long I been on the pill. But your replies have gave me faith Smile

I was on the pill from the age of 16 until 31. I stopped taking it last January and was pregnant by the February my daughter is 7 months old now x

peachypetite · 12/06/2020 10:42

It honestly varies so much. Make sure you start taking your folic acid Smile

LuckyC27 · 12/06/2020 10:51

I was on the mini pill from 15 came off it end of October at 27 and had a positive pregnancy test by early December with one period mid november. Many friends had said it can take a year or longer so wasn't expecting it so quickly so it can vary from person to person from friends experiencs. I also started taking conception vitamins the day after I came off pill so maybe look into that - good luck!

Abbie2056 · 12/06/2020 12:44

Thanks again everyone. Your all amazing! I have started taking folic acid. So going to take your advice and download an app and then fingers crossed!
