NIPT at Window to the Womb in NI?

Has anyone had the Harmony test at the above? It's about £180 cheaper than having the test at a private hospital here (I'm in NI) and I'm also struggling to actually get hold of any of the private places either on the phone or online to book an appointment.

It's this:

I mean it's all the same blood test and diagnostic place isn't it so the difference is probably in the scanning?

I've had it done, but not in NI or window to the womb. Some things to consider before deciding on where to go:

  • Some companies still send the samples to the USA for processing. This obviously adds time to get the results, and is a slight risk of samples being lost in transit
  • Some companies provide extras, so check what exactly is included. Some will do the CVS/Amnio if things wrong are detected, others wont.
  • Some provide an additional scan for 'free' as part of the package in a few weeks
  • Check how you will get the results (face to face, phone or a text?) and what follow up is provided IF something was wrong? I know of some places that provide no face to face in these cases, and simply tell you to contact your GP or local hospital for follow up. IMO, this is unacceptable.
  • Also check that they will repeat the test for free if not enough DNA is detected in the sample. This can occur if you are very early on- 10/11weeks, or over 80kg/higher BMI. I've also heard this can occur due to an IVF pregnancy, but not sure of the reason there would be no detectable DNA?
  • Harmony is just 1 of many brand names for the NIPT. Nifty, SAFE are a few others. I don't know of any major difference between them, other than some send the samples to the USA. They should all do a scan to check its over 10 weeks and take a blood sample from you.

My 1st pregnancy had Trisomy 13, which was detected at 11weeks on NIPT. They phoned, and had already booked me in for a more detailed scan the following day with them. I got to talk through next steps with the consultant & have the detailed scan.

Any questions, let me know. best of luck xxx

Thank you! I'm sorry you had a bad result. The one place that does seem to do follow up is the place I'm having most trouble getting hold of. I've sent numerous emails and phone calls and gotten nothing back.
