Symptoms of anaemia

So I have been having symptoms like dizziness, shortness of breath, spots in vision, more tired than normal, random (very occasional) nausea for about 3-4 weeks. Thought not much of these really.. just thought it was standard pregnancy symptoms.

I've then been made aware a few days ago that my iron levels at my 28 week blood test where 109 so on the low side but not anaemic. I'm now 33 weeks and over the last 2 days all the symptoms have really intensified (my heart is suddenly racing and I become really short of breath and feel like I'm going to pass out) could my iron levels have now dropped a lot lower? I feel like I've been fobbed off by my midwife who's told me to wait until next Thursday to have a blood test when I see her.

Should I be calling triage? I don't want to if it's not urgent but I really don't feel right.

I wouldn't be comfortable waiting around. I'd call your maternity assessment unit and get yourself checked over. They will do a full MOT on you and baby straight away.
If your feeling that unwell, don't wait. They will never make you feel a nuisance, they are lovely! I've been twice in the last few weeks and they have been amazing both times!
Do get yourself checked over OP 🥰

I’ve been prescribed iron tablets as my Hb has dropped from above 125 to 117, so I’m quite a bit higher than you but my GP asked if I had symptoms. Like you, I’ve had a lot of shortness of breath & just pure exhaustion & because I’m symptomatic he was happy to prescribe me some iron tablets. I would phone your GP & explain & hopefully they’ll help

My HB was 118 and I felt truly terrible! Dizzy, palpitations, exhausted.
I have been on iron supplements for 3 weeks now and feel SO SO much better

I thought that 115 was the cut off for being anaemic?

Either way, if it’s getting near to that level youre on the low side and need supplements ASAP

Pregnancy vits should have iron in, so keep taking those. My midwife also recommended SpaTone to top it up

@Gerdticker @Newmama29 @lockdownpregnancy hi everyone thank you for your replies! I ended up going to triage yesterday as I felt really bad. Turns out my levels are 100 so low and have been prescribed iron tablets so hopefully will start to feel better soon 😊

Ah brilliant! You will perk up really quickly! Give it a day or so and you'll be amazed at how much better you will feel! Glad you went 🥰
