Trying really hard not to gain too much this time but not working that well. So far I've gained 7lb at 15 weeks. My bmi was 26 pre pregnancy.
How are you less skinny ladies managing your weight gain?

I found this article which suggests a bit more leeway on the 15-25 lbs if you're a bit overweight

@Harper33 Thank you 😊 that’s very reassuring! All my Skinny Minnie friends have had the skin tight dresses and big bumps out at 20 weeks and with me there’s still nobody that even knows that I’m pregnant bar a few close family members 😂

I'm almost 15 weeks (the almost definitely counts Wink)
I started with a bmi of 26.5, didn't lose all of my previous baby weight before getting pregnant. So far I've put on about 1lb, I put on 3 stone with my last pregnancy and found that last 10lbs-1stone nearly impossible to lose so don't want to end up having to struggle with another stone on top of that extra stone after this baby is born. I want to count calories but I'm short, only 5ft ish so not sure how many is realistic for me 2000 seems like a lot for someone my height.

As a midwife I just need to say that please don’t restrict your calories but make sure that you are eating from all food groups and make healthy swaps but other than that, eat normally. Your calorie intake should increase in the third trimester for an extra 100 calories, which is about a banana and slice of brown toast.

@IamC from what I was told the weight gain in us larger ladies is supposed to be quite a bit less - I think they said about 8lb - 1 1/2 stone

But in terms of active measures all I really did was pre lockdown I was going to a preggy personal trainer 2 x a week and just being "mindful" of what I was eating. But I was absolutely not dieting in any way!

I had bad morning sickness and just chronic diarrhoea in my first trimester so I think that helped "lose" a bit to begin with but I was still having a takeaway here and there and like a lot of the other mamas I was a carb machine!

It's embarrassing but I think it was cutting out the booze that really did it for me! At the weekends me and my husband would have a bottle of wine between us - maybe more - and mid week I would go for drinks with friends and that would be Prosecco or cocktails! I also ate out maybe one a week/every two weeks so it was a massive lifestyle change getting pregnant!

I’m 27 weeks and have gained nothing since I conceived.

I lost 6 stone last year before I fell pregnant, I’m currently 15.9 and my BMI is 37. I don’t intend to gain any.

I’m terrified of gaining weight as I’ve had two horrific experiences with c sections when I wasn’t fat (trouble placing spinal and excessive blood loss) - so scared of having one as an obese person this time.

I’m being very cautious with what I eat, I don’t have any crap at all, just lots of salad, veg and protein.

I’ve had a few nasty comments about my size from HCP so it’s made me really upset. Last week the lady taking blood for my GTT kept saying again and again how big I was and how it can cause problems. I’m a size 16 now - she would have exploded if she saw me last year at a size 22.

I had a start bmi of 42, I have gained about 2kg over the entire pregnancy (being induced in a week at 39wks). I put it this down to feeling and being sick through most of all three trimesters.

@MrsRose2018 sounds like it's all very natural for you. Well done. I hope I have a similar experience.

We gave up drinking for 4 weeks before getting our BFP as we thought it might improve our chances of conception and I lost 4lbs. So maybe I'll lose a little more before I start to gain. Going for the 'my body is a temple' approach Grin

My bmi was 28 pre pregnancy and I've gained 5lbs. Im 22 weeks.

loubert89 · 08/06/2020 14:14

I'm 34 week & had a BMI of 37 when I started pregnancy, I've gained 1.5kg since my booking appointment at 9 weeks.

I had pretty severe morning sickness through the first trimester and half of the second.

MrsRose2018 · 08/06/2020 14:45

Lol @IamC I'm saying this literally after having a cheese scone for breakfast and a piece of chocolate tart (I'm also quite partial to a bowl of Lucky Charms).

Obviously I'm not advocating eating loads of shit when pregnant but I'm just trying not to overthink it! All our 3 meals a day are made from fresh, I love fruit and veg and we aren't really big on freezer food! So if we have some takeaways or I eat an entire family size bag of Doritos it seems to balance out!

For me pregnancy has been shit enough without beating myself up over what I eat! If "body is a temple" is what is going to make you a happy mamma then absolutely 100% do it and you're a much stronger woman than I am 😂😂
