Suspected chemical pregnancy - when to retest?

Hi everyone
First time poster here. I took a positive pregnancy test on Wednesday, but only a few hours later started bleeding. It’s continued since - although lighter than my usual period. I had a telephone appointment with the early pregnancy unit at my local hospital and while it could be any number of things at this stage, they said it could be a chemical pregnancy and to retest again in two weeks.
This is all really new to me - it’s the first time I’ve conceived, and I haven’t really told anybody yet because it’s so early, so I don’t have any experiences to compare it to - but I feel less ‘pregnant’ than I did on Wednesdays. Less breast tenderness etc and no real other side effects yet.
So my question is, would it be too early to retest now? I will obviously still take the test in the recommended two weeks time, but would another test now (three days after the initial positive) potentially be negative by now?

I feel okay about it really if it is a chemical pregnancy (with no offence or disrespect intended to people who have experienced this and found it very difficult) because I guess I wouldn’t have even known if I hadn’t tested that day and would have presumed this is just my period...

Any advice gratefully received - two weeks just feels like a long time to have no idea what’s happening in my body. Though I guess if I am pregnant I’d better get used to that!

Thank you all in advance x

Sorry you're going through this OP.

Pregnancy tests look for hcg in your system which can still be present for a while after a chemical or early MC. They are erring on the side of caution by saying 2 weeks as it can be upsetting if you keep getting positives for a while.
I would give it at least a week after your BFP.

Thanks for your response and your kindness Sel2223. You’re right, and I’m impatient... I’ll give it at least a week xx

Did you get a positive test on the day your period was due? Was it a faint positive or a strong positive? If it was faint I would be tempted to test again to either see if it was stronger or gone. If it was a pregnancy the HCG levels should double every 48 hours.
I always used to test if my period was late and not before as I had a few chemical pregnancies and took us a while to conceive xx

Take care OP xxx

Hi StoneSourFan, thanks for your response. I took the test when I was two days late, it was neither faint nor strong really but a definite line. Think I’ll wait til Weds and test again. Sorry you went through this and glad to hear you did conceive in the end xx
