Am I more likely to suffer with PND?

I've suffered with depression in the past, along with anxiety. I've been un-medicated for about a year now and have been doing well but am worried that I'm more likely to suffer with PND if I've already suffered with depression before. Any ladies had experience with this?

If anything your previous history with depression may help you to identify possible signs early on and get help promptly. Midwives always ask about your mood at antenatal appointments so make sure you share any concerns with them.

I believe that a history of depression is one of the factors which makes PND more likely. In my area, there is a MH midwife team who you can be referred to in addition to standard care, just to get some extra support in case you need it - maybe worth seeing if there is something similar available to you, just for reassurance.

Hi, I have suffered on and off with depression for many years. Was I medicated before pregnancy and felt well throughout. I didn't suffer any huge problems, though I also shared your concerns about PND. Deffo speak to your midwife, they will keep talking to you about it and can refer you under consultant care too.

Maybe but there is a lot of support you can get with it and as already said you will be aware of the esrly warning signs so that is an advantage. I don't think its a given. You may not. Congratulations on your pregnancy

It does increase your risk of PND and personally, I did end up suffering with it

On the plus side, because I was very aware of that risk, I was looking for the signs and was able to quickly start medication

I will ask for the input of the perinatal mental health team if we decide to have DC2 and preemptively start medication after the birth
