COVID - Are birth partners allowed on post natal wards??

Hi ladies,

I am being induced on the 27th and I am just wondering if anyone who has delivered recently knows what the situation is with partners being allowed on the post natal ward?

I’m assuming because it’s usually a shared ward they aren’t allowed to stay with you...Is that right? If so do they have to leave as soon as the baby is born?

I’m delivering in Manchester/St Mary’s hospital so if anyone has delivered there recently that would be really useful to know as well!

Thanks xx

Don’t know about Manchester but not allowed where I am.

I think most places don’t allow on post natal at the moment.

It seems to differ as to how early they can join you if you’re being induced though.

Good luck Flowers

I'm in Lincoln and partners not allowed on postnatal ward. It was lovely actually - very quiet and I had time to bond with my baby.

COVID-19 Updated Maternity Advice for Saint Mary's Hospital ... - Manchester University NHS

This seems to suggest your partner will be able.to visit during visiting hours. Sorry if link doesn't work i googled 'st Mary's Manchester Post natal covid' if you need to find it.

I was very relieved to learn that is what my hospital are doing too (c section booked for similar time to you). Now I just have everything crossed for no 2nd wave that might change the rules.

Ask your midwife, it varies between hospitals so we cant tell you for sure.

@RenegadeMrs that's really kind of you to post!!

It says that:

•	One birth partner is permitted to accompany a woman in the Delivery Units and the Birth Centre
•	One named visitor per patient is permitted in Children’s Wards, Maternity Wards and Neonatal Units at any one time

Guess it just depends on whether the PN ward is classed as the above...

We are fine with the regular "visiting time" rules but I just feel so tight on my husband!

I'll probs just be wanting a nap by that point but he will miss out on snuggles and bonding time :(
