Perineal Massage - did it work for you?

Hello,
I’m a FTM 37+1. For the last few weeks I have been trying perineal massage using the my expert midwife oil.
I’m not quite sure if I’ve been doing it often enough, for long enough or properly (getting quite difficult to reach) but will persevere if it has actually made a difference for anyone?

I have a real fear of stitches so am up for trying anything that might reduce the risk of tearing! Suggestions very welcome!

I did it and had no tearing, same for a friend of mine but both were first babies so no way of comparing! My feeling was that it's not going to do any harm so might as well give it a go! Good luck Smile

I did it. No tearing. Only have one child though.

@Lastbustowhitehawk @minnie465 thanks! Great to hear that! Definitely worth a shot.

Following as I'm expecting my first and have also bought the oil.

No tears on a first time birth is pretty good!

I had an episiotomy with my first so was abit worried I was more likely to tear due to that so I tried it. I didn't start till 35 weeks though and had him at 38 weeks so probably didn't do it as long as some.
I did have a second degree tear so needed stitches. It's hard to say whether it helped you could argue it could have been worse if hadn't tried the oil. I have to say this though I didn't have a clue it was only when midwife checked and said I needed stitches. It wasn't hurting at all.

I did it with my first. No tears either time.
