Yep completely normal. In most areas your only NHS scans are 12 and 20 weeks. You'll probably have a booking in appointment with the midwife at 8 weeks which is just a chat, blood tests and blood pressure (if done in person), medical history etc

Jupiter15 · 02/06/2020 10:31

Yes, that is totally normal. You usually have a booking appointment with the midwife a couple of weeks before the scan.

sel2223 · 02/06/2020 10:31

In the UK, the first NHS scan is normally between 11 and 14 weeks.

You can find information on what happens at each appointment on the NHS website OP. It's very useful, if you google your trust and maternity services you'll find it. It will tell you when to expect appointments and what is likely to happen at each.

Here's a generic one, your own trusts info might be slightly different- eg, this one says 8-14 weeks for eating scan but most are 11-14 and some hospitals are doing 36 week scans but others aren't:

I think she meant your 8 week booking-in appointment, not 8 week scan.
If you did want a scan at 8 weeks you can pay to have one done privately. You would need to arrange this yourself as it’s not an NHS service. The NHS do provide scans around 8 weeks for some people, but this is usually if they have had 3 or more miscarriages, or suspected of having multiples or have pain with bleeding.

@Wedding2018 I had a private scan at 10 weeks if that’s something you wanted to do. It was lovely as it’s my first pregnancy and my boyfriend was able to come along too.

Pygmyseahorse · 02/06/2020 13:03

Congratulations

I think she probably misspoke
Booking appointment with blood tests, BP and height and weight is usually around 8 weeks

Dating scan on NHS is between 11-14 ish weeks, tends to be around 12 or 13 in my experience

NHS scans are usually 12 dating and 20 anomoly then you may get one or more later on, things like underlying health conditions or growth etc can mean you have a couple extra

Private scans are an option if you feel the need but don't worry if you don't have one

All the best

Shankairen · 02/06/2020 13:05

Normal. You don't have your first scan until 12 weeks, then you'll have another at 20. You won't have anymore after unless there's something that needs checked or you pay for a private one (3D,Gender etc).

Shankairen · 02/06/2020 13:06

But yeah you do have an 8 week appointment,it's just the booking-in to see them and discuss it all x

BlueGreenYellowRed · 02/06/2020 13:09

Some hospitals still offer a 36 week scan too

Wedding2018 · 02/06/2020 13:38

Thanks everyone
