I'm 14+1 and even though it's too early, I caved and purchased my first baby item ever! Grin It's a going-home set that includes a hat, body, top and pants. I'm more excited than I thought I would be. As I don't even have a bump yet, this will make the whole thing feel more real.

What was the first baby item you got? How did you feel buying/receiving it? How many weeks ahead were you? Do you still keep it? BearFlowers

I was 16 weeks and bought a tiny pink knitted elephant from Cath Kidson that is seen when we were trying and hoped to go back for one day. I think it's in her memory box upstairs

We celebrated a happy and healthy 20 wk scan with a shelf from Rafa Kids Grin

10 weeks and bought a little cuddle toy. Going to use for the announcement and based the nursery around it.

Very early but also....why not celebrate now!? This baby deserves a toy, and I deserve a cute baby treat in the post.

I was only 4 weeks but I wanted to surprise my husband when he got home from his skiing trip, so I bought a little vest. Felt very surreal buying baby clothes for us and not someone else!

I'm 15±4 weeks and have already bought the pram, bottles, steriliser, a bouncer and moses basket! (I know 🙈)

Half because I was impatient waiting for my first scan (which happened at 14 weeks) and needed something to be in control of and half because some of the stuff was on offer and it seemed silly to wait and then have to buy full price - the pram was around £140 down from over £200 and if we had waited we wouldn't have been able to afford it full price. DH was the one who told me start buying because I was pissing him off with my inability to sit still - kept moving furniture around and then putting it back the same way just because I needed to feel in control over something!

Ours was steriliser and nappy bin, we had brought off vests and sleepers but not outfits per say. But we wanted to spread to the cost over the months I was about 14 weeks at the time. Now I'm slowly getting more and more I'm
19 weeks but that's more because my partner is no longer furloughed it has opened up a bit more cash for purchases. Still not done any big bits mainly because I went to get a feel for them in the shops.

I was 34 weeks and it was a Cot. I was so convinced I was going to lose the baby I didn’t even want to think about buying stuff - my husband had to force me.

I bought 2 sets of muslins. One was a pack of 5 green, yellow, orange, dots and stripes. The other a set of 3 dinosaur patterns.

I bought that when I was 23 weeks, dh had bought a vest that says "my dad is a cool dad, like a normal dad, just with a beard and tattoos" after the 12 week scan.

We didn't know what we were having, we now have a dinosaur obsessed 3 year old girl. All my fault, I love dinosaurs.

Dd pregnancy we got a pack of tiny fluffy socks from M&S after the first scan, I had terrible anxiety after mc and terrible HG so would take a sock in my pocket places or to hospital admissions as a comfort. Still have them, she's put them on one of her stuffed animals

This time we will spread costs as it'll be dd birthday, Christmas and new baby in the same few weeks so if scan goes OK I'm going to pick up a couple of things this week like a playmat on offer.
I am watching a couple of hand knitted pixie hats and cardis too

grey12 · 02/06/2020 04:25

DD1 I got the soft toy Bashful Bunny at about 4/5 months :)))
Before that I was too afraid....

ItsMischerWavy · 02/06/2020 06:09

I had a private scan at 17 weeks to find out the gender then got talked into buying a couple of outfits....... Really odd feeling as I still d idnt believe it was real. I remember looking at it thinking omg it's so tiny, how am I going to look after something so tiny?!?!

Prettylittlelady · 02/06/2020 06:13

I bought a tiny little raincoat that I saw in Sainsbury’s - not really that practical but so cute, when I was 16 weeks. I’m 20+6 today and have only bought a couple of other plain sleepsuits I’m going to wait until around 28 weeks to start buying big items.

ronniemipperton · 02/06/2020 06:24

I bought a lovely 0-3 pramsuit that was too big until she was close to 3 months, by which time it was unseasonably warm. She’s now too big for it and she’s never worn it 🤦‍♀️ Hoping we have another one in autumn!
