If you heard ‘girl’ at 20 week scan...

Had 20 week scan the other day and the ultrasonographer said she ‘thought it looked like a girl’ but never gives guarantees with girls. I asked if the baby was in a strange position which might make it harder to tell, but she said no, position was perfect and she’d had a good look. I feel a bit like I’m still not sure now! Is it normal to be told this at a 20 week scan? I completely appreciate nothing is 100%, and I don’t mind in the slightest either way, main thing was checking the baby was fine which she (?) was, just wondering if other people who were told they were having girls were told in a more definite way? Thanks!

@RoseGoldEagle I could have written this post myself! I too had my 20 scan the other day and was told ‘looks like a girl but we are never 100% with girls and little boys bits can sometimes hide’
I don’t mind either way but now I would like to find out for sure because she has sort of half told me if that makes sense. WTTW are doing gender scans again after the 1st so I have booked one to Friday to try and find out for certain, I don’t want to go through 20 more weeks of sort of thinking I’m having a girl I’d like to have some certainty!

Prettylittlelady. Yes this is exactly how I feel too! We didn’t find out with our first two, just decided we’d do it differently this time, but I almost wish we hadn't now! Like you say i don't mind in the slightest either way, but think it will be weird to be half thinking this is a girl for almost 5 months and then it turning out to be a boy! Thanks for that info- I think I might wait a month to give any boy bits more of a chance to show if they are going to, and then get another scan. Let me know how you get on!!

The sonographer is right to emphasise that sexing is a clinical judgement with a margin for error, not a certain diagnosis - and I guarantee that in any private clinic the sonographer is only able to tell you the sex in greater certainty because there are disclaimers in their terms and conditions.
