40 weeks and no sign of baby

Feeling frustrated and impatient! DS1 came early (which wasn't ideal as we had an ELCs scheduled) so I suppose I thought the same would happen this time.

Now 40+2 and no real signs of labour. I get quite a lot of tightenings in the evening and think I had a few cramps during last night but then come morning all feels normal.

Can't shake the feeling that baby isn't going to come anytime soon. Hoping for a VBAC so want to avoid induction and can go a max of 12 days over.

Know there's still time but just can't believe it will happen for some reason. Has anyone else felt similar?

DC1 came early (36 weeks) and DC2 came at 40+4. If it's any consolation, DC2 arrived in 5 hours from first twinge 😊

Getmoveon14 · 29/05/2020 22:45

This was me 9 years ago. I tried all the old wives tales and one day after trying to express and a few hours after a hot curry DD arrived without any medical intervention (10 days late). DS arrived on time the day I'd walked up a fairly big hill. I reckon it's worth having a try at anything you can. Good luck!

Hurryupbaby11 · 30/05/2020 10:45

Thanks both. Same again today, a few cramps and tightenings during the evening and then back to normal this morning Sad

DS1 came after a curry so think I'll try that tonight! Plus as much walking as I can and sitting upright etc.

I'd love it if it happens like that @CheshireCats! Gives me some hope!

Good luck

I feel your pain.
Now 40+6 and absolutely no sign!

5stringtele · 30/05/2020 12:28

I'm 40 weeks tomorrow and have had absolutely no indication of anything happening soon!

Megzmoo · 30/05/2020 14:29

I'm also 40 tomorrow and had no regular signs, I am having my first sweep tomorrow so really hoping that kick starts things for us! Good luck original poster 😊

Cazzy198 · 30/05/2020 16:19

I am a FTM and currently 41+1. I feel your frustration OP and I love just resigned myself to an induction now.

I had a sweep at 40+5 with a bishop score of 4 and I have another sweep booked for 41+3. I get tightening in the evening and period style pains but have done for almost 2 weeks now. I am trying everything and I've just got back from an hours walk. I've started to get discharge which I'm hoping is my plug starting to come out.

I've never wanted to be in pain so badly in my lifeGrin

MsChatterbox · 30/05/2020 16:23

If it makes you feel any better, with my son I had absolutely no signs I was going into labour until the morning of! (at 40+6)

Girlmum91 · 30/05/2020 16:35

Urgh, the last month of pregnancy is the absolute worst! I just wanted to cry every morning when I'd wake up to find my waters still hadn't broken. I had a sweep at 38 weeks and then again at 39. I'm pretty sure I gave birth earlier because of the second sweep so if you want to speed things along might be worth asking for one? Good luck in any case and hang in there Smile

LBTM · 30/05/2020 16:58

I feel your frustration! I've been there - DC1 was 5 days early, DC2 was elcs 9 days early but lots of signs that he was almost on his way. I ended up being induced 10 days late with DC3. I was surprised by the options available for induction for a vbac and it all went well. Good luck!

Aquamarine1029 · 30/05/2020 17:02

My second, DD, was a week late. I thought I was going to explode.

HildaSnibbs · 30/05/2020 17:08

I've recently had DC3 at 41 weeks and thought she would never come! At 40 weeks I ordered a birth ball from Amazon and bounced on it for ages each day, then had a sweep at 40+6, then bounced more the next day... she was born at 41+1... try the birth ball? And beg for a sweep ASAP! Good luck!

Hurryupbaby11 · 30/05/2020 21:51

Thank you everyone, it's good to hear others are feeling the same way and that there is hope of labour with not many signs too.

@Girlmum91 that is exactly how I've been feeling every morning!! I don't know why but always pictured things starting at night or first thing so once that's been and gone, I feel a bit despondent all day!

@Cazzy198 I know what you mean, if I do go into labour I'm sure I'll regret feeling so desperate for it to happen.

I'm booked in for a sweep next Friday but maybe i should ask for one sooner? Are they quite painful or not too awful?

Good luck fellow 40 (or 40+!) weekers, hopefully there's some progress for us all soon Smile

I'm currently 37+2, for both my previous pregnancy my DS my first arrived 5 days early and my 2nd DD arrived on her due date I've never gone over but for some reason I'm expecting to with my 3rd I think it's due to me never going over that this baby will want to keep me waiting as he has given me a few scares throughout this pregnancy.

Girlmum91 · 31/05/2020 08:58

I would ask for one sooner personally as a week is a long time to wait (if you're totally fed up). Worst they can say is no. Don't be too disappointed if it doesn't work the first time round - mine didn't but I did have cramps all night and it helped my cervix dilate. Second time worked.

It did hurt to be honest but the pain only lasted for about 10 seconds and it was done. If it only feels like a light tickle it probably won't be very effective.

Cazzy198 · 31/05/2020 09:01

@Hurryupbaby11 my sweep wasnt too uncomfortable. It's like having a smear test with a small amount of blood afterwards but really minimal. It did make me feel achey like my period was about to start afterwards though but that only lasted for a day and wasnt too painful in the grand scheme of things
