Severe early pregnancy pains

Hello! I was hoping someone could help me, or at least put me at ease! I've just found out I'm pregnant (think around 4/5 weeks). I only tested because of the pains I'm having and I'm wondering if they're normal?

  • Period like cramps
  • Stomach tender to touch
  • Pain when moving sometimes and lying down in certain positions
  • Pain behind belly button
  • Back pain

I woke up with no pain this morning and it seems to get worse throughout the day... and I'm having to have a hot water bottle and take paracetamol (as advised by GP).

I phoned the GP and they have sent some pee off to test for infection but didn't seem concerned and said unlikely to be ectopic with no bleeding, but that if the pain continues they'll investigate further. I'm just in so much pain it surely can't be normal? Has anyone else had this? Sad

Yes, I had horrendous period-like cramps from weeks 5 to 8ish. Worse than any period I've ever had, sometimes they had me in tears. They stopped after about 8 weeks and our 12 week scan showed a healthy baby. Your insides are stretching and being pulled about so that could be it! :)

I had the same at 5 weeks for about a week or two and then they eased. Woke me up from sleep a few times and couldn't get back to sleep so sleepless nights already!

I found gentle exercise helped. I was walking lengths of the living room and marching in place at 3 am in the morning Confused

@Smiling89 This is literally me! I eventually have to climb into bed with a hot water bottle feeling sorry for myself haha. The worst part of the pain is just the not knowing what is happening! I really hope they don't last until week 8 Shock

@Smiling89 I get out for a walk everyday but I wasn't sure if that would aggravate it or not. So I just tend to curl up and wait for it to ease off. Maybe I should try marching across my living room instead haha Smile

I found the hot water bottle didnt help, lying on my back and alternating between stretching out and cycling my legs (very dignified) seemed to help a bit. It gets better!

Hiya. I had this weeks 5-10 but have endometriosis and was told its my uterus tearing the adhesions as it grows. Was monitored in epu weekly to check for ectopics and hcg levels and now 29 weeks x

I had the period like cramps between weeks 5 and 6 before they went. They panicked me but I read that this is really normal in your early stages. R.e the back pain and tummy, I had this at week 6.5 and it was a UTI threatening my kidneys! I was up in the night feeling faint and sick. Back ache was horrific, no position helped. They tested my pee which was positive for e-coli. They gave me antibiotics which worked and two days after I finished them, the symptoms came back... That was today 😖 hope you feel better soon!!

Thanks everyone! It makes me feel so much better knowing the pains should be normal! They’ve actually eased off so much now, but I do still get awful pain when I get up too fast or lie in certain positions!

I had period like cramps too around 5-6weeks (I’m now 7 weeks). This is a pregnancy after a miscarriage at 5+2. I experienced a different type of cramping at start of miscarriage. I had acute severe period-like pain plus bleeding. It then continued like normal period.
Listen to your body though and take it easy.

Hi all just an update, I had an early scan today due to pain. I’ve had brown discharge today so I was even more worried before the scan.

I’ve been diagnosed with a pregnancy of unknown location as they couldn’t see a yolk sac Sad, which would be expected at 6 weeks.

It could be that I’m earlier than I thought (based on my last period I should be 6 weeks today), have an ectopic pregnancy or I’m miscarrying. I had my bloods today which were consistent with the scan and have more bloods on Monday and a follow up scan on Friday. If my HCG levels don’t double then they will scan me earlier.

I feel like I’m miscarrying and there’s no point in staying positive at this point as I’ll be crushed if I’m too hopeful Sad I’m terrified it’s ectopic!
