I’m worried I’m pregnant, took morning after pill!

I have name changed to talk about this subject as I don’t particularly want it linked to my usual name.

So I have a DD who is just 6 months old and a couple of weeks ago DP and I had unprotected sex - the first time we’ve been intimate since she was born. I took the morning after pill straight as soon as I could (around 3/4 hours afterwards) and I’ve had a period / bleeding since taking it.

However the last couple of days I have been feeling wiped out so now I’m concerned I could infact be pregnant! Although DD is EBF and is up 2-5 times a night and the heat isn’t helping so I’m hoping it’s a combination of those things.

Amazon is delivering pregnancy tests tomorrow but when is the best time to take these? It’s been 12 days since doing the deed and taking the pill.
Has anyone else been in this situation? I think I’m just after a bit of a hand hold and reassurance.

Oh I should probably add that although DD is EBF my periods returned around 8 weeks post partum and I’ve had a few but not been keeping an eye on dates or anything so no idea when my next period is actually due.

If you've bled since then it's more likely your just tired anyway and your looking out for symptoms because your paranoid about being pregnant Smile obviously do a test but I think you'll be safe xx

I’m so hoping that’s the case! we would love another baby but just not now. I adore DD and want to spend as much time as I can just focused on her and financially now isn’t a great time!

The morning after pill works by stoping / delaying ovulation so if you had already ovulated before you took it, it will not work. You would have needed an IUD inserting up to 5 days after unprotected intercourse

oneworriedmumma · 27/05/2020 17:36

I don’t even know what an IUD is Blush Wouldn’t the pharmacist have mentioned this?

IntraUterine Device (coil), sorry.
Sadly in my experience most practitioners either don't know this themselves or don't mention it

oneworriedmumma · 27/05/2020 20:29

Ah okay, well it’s far too late for that now :(

I got pregnant after taking the MAP. However, if you've had a period, I'd say it's unlikely. Especially if you're breastfeeding. Take a test in about 2 weeks, just in case Smile

oneworriedmumma · 28/05/2020 08:10

@borntohula I’ve read other things where people have still gotten pregnant and that’s what worries me! Did you have a period or any bleeding afterwards and what morning after pill did you take if you don’t mind me asking. I hope it all worked out for you!

Pharmacists can prescribe emergency contraception but not an iud (also known as the coil) so that guides some of their advice.
There is a bit of a push at the moment to make the limitations of the emergency contraception and what should be used and when, but it takes time for this information to pass down.

As it has almost been 2 weeks I would take a test when you get it and if it is negative repeat after 3-7 days (as long as you can wait). Having had your period I would have thought the risks would be low but until you see those repeated negative tests it will probably be on your mind.
Good luck!

@Superscientist I think you’ve hit the nail on the head with I won’t relax until I’ve had negative tests. I just wasn’t sure when to test as with DD I didn’t find out until 6 weeks but obviously I need to know before then this time. Thankyou for your help :)

I didn't have a period. I can't remember the name of the pill but it was one that could be taken up to 72hrs after unprotected sex. Take a test, hopefully you get the result you want and you can relax. Good luck 😊

sarahc336 · 28/05/2020 12:29

Well really most sensitive tests these days will give a positive even at 10 dpo so I'd say anywhere around 14 days of having sex you'd know with a good and sensitive test xx

oneworriedmumma · 30/05/2020 13:31

So I’ve done one test and it was negative, I have a couple more to take over the next couple of weeks and that will hopefully be the end of it!
