How much weight did you gain in first trimester?

Hello ladies,

I was wondering how much people have gained in their first trimester? I have googled and it says an average of 1 - 4.5lb. I don't know if it's just bloating but I feel like I am going to exceed this with the way I am going....don't feel I am eating more just carbs to try and curb the nausea.

Any experience/feedback welcome :) xx

I didn’t gain anything last time or this time until about 20 weeks. But then I am very fat to start with so was trying my hardest to eat well.
Small and regular nibbles helped me through the nausea, that and ice cold water.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 25/05/2020 20:36

I put on absolutely shitloads as eating was the only thing that stopped me feeling sick... I wouldn't worry too much, once the nausea has calmed down you can go back to eating healthily and it'll all even out again.

I got hugely bloated as soon as I came off the pill, 6 months before conception. I looked 5 months pregnant from 1-5 months because as my bloated, water retention belly went down my baby grew so I actually stayed the same size for months. I was classed as obese and had 'borderline gestational diabetes' so had lots of extra checks and growth scans because they were worried about dd being a big baby. She was 3.1kg and so tiny that 'newborn' nappies just fell off her!

ParkheadParadise · 25/05/2020 20:36

Nothing.
With dd2 I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was 5mths.
By the time I was 9mths I had actually lost weight.

I put on 5lb in my first trimester! Thought I was doing so well and I'm now currently 22lb heavier than my pregnancy pregnancy weight! Second trimester weight gain has been pretty quick and I'm only half way through! I've still got 18 weeks of weight gain left! 😭😭😭

lockdownpregnancy · 25/05/2020 20:43

Pre-pregnancy that should have said

Clemmie83 · 25/05/2020 20:49

I'm 13 weeks and despite feeling really bloated and big have actually lost a couple of lbs from not drinking and having a reduced appetite for a few weeks.

MondeoFan · 25/05/2020 20:49

Hardly any as couldn't stop being sick. I think I lost 10 lbs

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 25/05/2020 21:07

I didn't gain anything until 20 ish weeks. Now at 32 weeks I've gained 12 lbs.

I was awfully bloated in first trimester, but didn't gain weight, so don't worry too much!

WhatWouldPennyDo · 25/05/2020 21:28

Lost 7lbs. I’m 19wks now and have started to put on a little weight. Now 5lbs down on my pre-pregnancy weight.

MissyPG · 25/05/2020 21:43

With my first I gained about 5lbs but eating kept the nausea at bay, second I probably didn’t gain anything but was very unwell and couldn’t eat for a week or so. This time (3rd) I’ve gained about 3lbs but was a lot heavier to start so have really tried not to gain anything. It all evens itself out anyway I reckon 🤞🏼

Margo34 · 25/05/2020 21:49

I put on 0.8kg in my first trimester (which the interweb tells me is 1.7lbs).

Sped up during 2nd trimester, I'm currently 22w and the total weight gain since the start so far is 10lb.

FTM

Elouera · 25/05/2020 21:54

1.5kg. I did have bloating post IVF meds, plus had switched from a keto diet to a 'normal' one as soon as pregnant, so most likely my weight gain was bloat/food related and nothing to do with the pregnancy.

coffeeaddiction · 25/05/2020 21:57

A full stone ! Eating carbs was the only thing to stop be feeling sick !
My weight gain slowed after the first trimester thankfully

Hannah9176 · 25/05/2020 21:57

I gained 7lb with first baby, now 10 weeks pregnant and haven't gained anything yet. Although my pre pregnancy weight now is 14lb heavier than pre pregnancy with my first (gained 42lb in first pregnancy and DD is only 7 month so wasn't done losing the baby weight!).

Echobelly · 25/05/2020 21:58

No idea, never weighed myself!

skinnyhotchoc · 25/05/2020 22:04

5lb which I'm a bit annoyed about because my bmi was already slightly judged into the overweight zone. I didn't put any on initially as was constantly nauseous but then at 11 weeks I suddenly put it on. I'm now feeling better but constantly hungry so god knows where it will all end!

bloodyhellsbellsx · 25/05/2020 22:07

I lost due to morning/afternoon sickness but then made up for it in the third with a stone a month 😭🐷

LexiM · 25/05/2020 22:07

I lost weight in the first trimester as I was either sick or totally off food from around 5-14 weeks. I’m nearly 20 weeks now and nearing the weight I was before getting pregnant. That being said I am starting to feel more hungry now and as the bump grows I expect the weight to come on!

Gerdticker · 25/05/2020 22:08

I think weight gain really depends on what weight you started at.

Obviously if you are slim or underweight, you are more likely to gain more than somebody who has excess weight to start with.

I have found that my weight has leaped around a bit during both my pregnancies, rather than going up in a consistent way every week.

EmeraldShamrock · 25/05/2020 22:12

I am slim, I put it in very quick the first 3 months once I hit the fourth month it was a steady growth. I think I put kn nearly 2 stone overall so not much.
I put on 3 stone the 2nd pregnancy but lost 4 within 6 week's of the birth, no sleep, walking floors on repeat.

InDubiousBattle · 25/05/2020 22:14

First baby- none, very little in the second tbh. I think I lost 'me' weight, probably weighed less 2 weeks after his birth than at his conception.
Second baby- a metric tonne. I felt sick (but didn't throw up)all of the time and stodgy carbs and full fat coke made me feel better. The, frankly ridiculous, weight gain levelled off in the second trimester followed by another tonne in the last. That was just greed and feeling sorry for myself!

Nelbert19 · 25/05/2020 22:16

I’ve been all over the place - slightly high BMI pre pregnancy (26)

Gained 7lb before week 8 because of quitting smoking

Lost 8lb by week 16 due to hyperemesis

Now 31 weeks and about 14lb heavier than where I started. I’m expecting things to slow now because I have horrible heartburn and I get full so quickly because baby’s foot is jammed into my stomach!

I have a huge bump (95th centile), but have lost weight from my face and limbs, so who knows what I’ll weigh post partum!

Quarantined · 25/05/2020 22:37

I lost a stone in the first trimester of one pregnancy. But that was because of hyperemesis gravidum - quite severe, I had to go to hospital.

Ginandtonic31 · 25/05/2020 22:45

I gained about 4lb. I was really pleased with myself. By the end I had gained about 3 stone and 11 weeks post birth I'm still a stone up.
