8 weeks scan issues :(

Good afternoon.
I had private scan today, I should be bang on 8 weeks today. I have 27/28 days regular cycles and ovulation confirmed by opks on 12th or April, last period 30th of March x
I was told there is 2 sacs and they can see two embryos. Twin A is measuring 3.5mm with visible heartbeat, obviously it’s about 2 weeks behind measurements wise 😩. Twin B is measuring only 2.4mm and there is no heartbeat. I was told to re scan in a couple of weeks.
Anyone has been in similar situation? What are the chances the either one or both will survive? I attached the photo if that’s of any help.

I have spoken to my midwife this morning.
She is not worried about the bigger twin with heart beat, as far as she’s concerned it is a viable pregnancy and not to worry about measurements at this stage because they can be very inaccurate x she will try and organise NHS scan for me by the end of next week x as for the smaller twin she said it’s more and more common for early scans to show twin pregnancies and by the time NHS scans kick in at around 12 weeks there is only one baby x which I am fine with, nature has got its own ways x so I’m feeling a bit better after talking to her so roll on next scan so we can see what’s going on x

@Katie1109 I am glad you managed to speak to your midwife and it sounds positive which is great news!! Hopefully that puts you at ease a little. Please keep us posted on how your scan goes.

I also had a call from the EPU this morning following a referral from the private clinic and they have booked me in for Friday morning. Feeling happy I have another scan but also anxious that now I have to face it again. Fingers crossed and positive thinking that there has been some development.
Xx

Katie1109 · 27/05/2020 12:52

Quick update from me, my midwife has now referred my to local EPU and my scans and report is with the consultant, once reviewed they will contact me to agree next steps x
@MayBug2020 how are you feeling? What time is your scan tomorrow?

MayBug2020 · 27/05/2020 16:12

@Katie1109 that’s great news yours is now with EPU hopefully you will here back soon. How are you feeling?

My scan is on Friday at 11:30. Trying to keep busy but anxious as I haven’t been feeling as sick as before :( I know there is nothing I can do so trying to just relax but waiting for the unknown is so frustrating. I have actually booked the day off work as I won’t be able to focus on Friday xx

Katie1109 · 27/05/2020 16:13

Scan in 2 weeks from today ahhh this is going to be very long 2 weeks 😩

I'm glad they are doing another scan. Unfortunately, a vanishing twin isn't uncommon and the majority would never be known about, unless you have an early scan. My cousin had this and had a healthy baby. A friend MC 1, then 2 weeks later the other sadly.

I asked a question a few weeks ago about measuring a week smaller and many replied saying that went on to have healthy pregnancies. Early scans are so small and its difficult to see all the details.

Hopefully your little beans are growing and will look more baby like on the next scan xxx

Katie1109 · 28/05/2020 07:45

@Elouera thank you for sharing x I’m really hoping at least one of them is a survivor x I read a lot about vanishing twin and realise how common it is x there was me hoping early scan will provide me with reassurance, instead it made me so much more confused and hanging in the limbo x
@MayBug2020 fingers crossed for you today! x 🤞

@MayBug2020 I’ve got midwife appointment today for bloods etc x felt quite nauseated yesterday and first thing this morning but cup of tea and a cracker resolved it x

MayBug2020 · 28/05/2020 08:26

@Katie1109 morning, my scan is tomorrow so one more day to go. Hope your appointment goes well today for bloods.
I have gone off tea and coffee at the moment and only drinking water which is really unlike me. Xx

Katie1109 · 28/05/2020 08:36

@MayBug2020 omg I actually thought today is Friday!! 😂 I’m sorry x one more day to go for you then x not long now x

OP posts:
MayBug2020 · 28/05/2020 10:54

@Katie1109 I wish it was Friday today haha it’s hard to keep track of the days at the moment :)

I am so anxious as my sickness has eased but I am still tired and sore boobs - just got to wait and see.

How are you feeling? What date is your next scan? Xx

Katie1109 · 28/05/2020 11:15

@MayBug2020 every day seems the same lol 😂 I feel slightly nauseated for couple of hours a day, but nothing major x but I know my mum hasn’t suffered from morning sickness when she was pregnant so I’m hoping I’m the same and it’s not a bad thing x other than that, slightly sore boobs and having to wee in the middle of the night I am not bad at all x honestly don’t worry about sickness coming and going, I read that’s very common and usually completely goes away late in 1st or early in 2nd trimester x my scan is 11th of June with EPU. Not sure whether I’ll last that long or just book another private one for the end of next week x 😩

OP posts:
MayBug2020 · 28/05/2020 11:24

@Katie1109 oh fingers crossed you don’t suffer too much from the sickness then. I think my mum felt sick for the whole of the 1st trimester but not sure and can’t ask as we aren’t telling anyone.

I know it is super hard to wait between scans but I did tell myself I wanted to wait long enough to see a change otherwise I would end up wanting another one again in a week or so. I was fully prepared to pay for one end of next week is EPU didn’t book one in xx

Katie1109 · 29/05/2020 07:36

@MayBug2020 everything crossed for you today x I really hope you’ll get some good news x 🤞🤞

I didn't want to read and go. Congratulations on the pregnancy and hope the time to the next scan will pass quickly!
I had a lot of miscarriages and early scans, and my last one was a twin pregnancy. My first scan was very similar to yours and the smaller twin is now playing downstairs. The pregnancy wasn't declared viable until much later and he stayed smaller until birth. Unfortunately it's often the case with twins.
The fact twin A has a heartbeat is very reassuring, don't worry too much about the size of it at the moment x

Katie1109 · 29/05/2020 10:06

@user1471523870 thank you very much x reading a positive story means a lot to me at the moment x were yours measuring behind on the early scan too? I don’t suppose you remember what they were measuring at an early stage? x congrats on your twins! x

user1471523870 · 29/05/2020 10:18

I am very sorry but no, I don't remember. I know that twin A was few days behind what she should have been (it was IVF so no room for paying with the dates!) and twin B was constantly two weeks behind. Also, twin B was 'hidden' somehow and difficult to see/hear in the first few early scans.

Katie1109 · 29/05/2020 10:30

@user1471523870 oh wow! I didn’t think it was possible for dates to be off with ivf? Did they ever explain to you why twin B was 2 weeks behind? Honestly I don’t think my smaller one will make it, even the sac is tiny and shape of it looks just wrong x as long as I get one survivor I will be over the moon, it’s so out of my control but all I want is at least one healthy baby! x
