How accurate are scan measurements?

Hi ladies,

Just wondering if anyone else has had growth scans and confusing/conflicting measurements.

I'm 30+4 today and just had my second scan in 2 weeks.

I had a private well-being scan at 28+0 and baby measured on the 90th centile and abdominal circumference was over 95th which was obviously worrying!

Over the weekend I had reduced movements and went in for monitoring and as standard at my hospital with first baby they do a growth scan for reduced movements. Today baby apparently measured on the 50th centile and "couldn't be more average".

How accurate are the scan sizing estimates? Has anyone else had this? Just find it strange he was "huge" for 28 weeks and now bang average for 30.5 weeks!

Hi @GingerSunday, I have 4 weekly growth scans and my consultant said that after 30 weeks they are fairly inaccurate (makes me wonder why I'm doing them, but anyway....).

Also I suppose as the baby is growing, some weeks they will have growth spurts etc. For example at my 30 week scan, the femur was at 70th percentile, at 34 week scan the femur was at 23rd percentile.

Thanks @LH1987 that makes sense! His tummy was 97th centile and is now 60th so it just seemed crazy but makes sense if they have little growth spurts! Do you remember what your baby's estimated weight was at your 30 week scan?

Mine was bang on. Estimated 5lb12 at 35 weeks, baby born at 36 weighing 6lb5 (if you go by an ounce a day, literally spot on). Although I've heard of lots of cases of scans being way off!

My friend had a scan at 37 weeks because they thought her baby was going to be small and her bump measurements were the same as 2 weeks previously, they estimated a birth weight of around 7 pounds, she was 9 pounds 13.
