Worried about weight gain 2nd pregnancy 39 weeks

I’m 39 weeks and just been weighed as having a c section this week

I’ve put on less than 1.5 stone this time without doing anything differently to the last time I was pregnant where I put on 4 stone

Is there a chance this is a bad sign?

Have you been more careful with what you are eating this time?
With my first pregnancy I ate so much and put on a lot of weight as I was using pregnancy as an excuse. I then really really struggled to lose the weight.
I am now 15 weeks with baby number 2 and at 12 weeks I was still the same weight.
I am sure everything is fine!!
Where abouts are you BTW? I am going to have an elective this time and was wondering if it was standard to have the elective at 39 weeks?

I'm 21 weeks and put on 20lbs! Im all baby (and I'm only having one!) As long as you and baby are healthy then I wouldn't worry!
I'd say you've done really well to only gain that much! 👍🏻

That was my goal this time and I’m 30 weeks and have put on 2 stone already :(

Natalie654321 · 18/05/2020 17:51

@TTC2019xx it's sooo hard to not put on loads of weight. My appetite has started to come back this week and I just want to eat loads :(

userabcname · 18/05/2020 17:56

No it's fine. I gained around 3 and a half stone with my first. 22lbs with my second. Both happy, healthy babies!

A bad sign of what? Surely if there was a problem with your weight or the baby's weight it will have been addressed by your midwife/doctor?

Rebelwithallthecause · 18/05/2020 19:37

I only had one scan at 20 weeks and haven’t had any fundal measurements since

I have struggled with this the whole way through pregnancy so far - 26 weeks tomorrow and as far as I can tell have only gained a couple of kilos.

Midwife says it's absolutely nothing to worry about and some people actually lose weight overall in pregnancy if they begin overweight!

I think the 'average weight gain' is perhaps based on the fact that most people eat lots more than is needed in pregnancy Blush Grin

Chichz · 18/05/2020 20:02

It's pretty rubbish that you haven't had any measurements though!

Goostacean · 18/05/2020 20:04

First pregnancy I gained 24kg, average baby. Second time around more like 18kg in the end... 5kg of which ended up being baby!! Don’t worry about it.

Sounds perfectly normal to me. I put on 20lbs in my pregnancy, BMI 22 when I fell pregnant, 8lb baby, all fine. NHS suggests 22 to 26lbs is typical.
