Hi there,
I am new to this but really worried tonight regarding what I have just eaten!
I am 12 weeks pregnant and have not stopped eating and I am ballooning by the minute!
I have eaten 6 sausages today with dinner as I have been craving for a while and now feel like I am about to explode but i am so worried now as I have just read that it is a no no to eat sausages during pregnancy especially 6 in one go...oops I am so worried I cant sleep..
They were cooked well but I feel very bloated and have a bit of an ache.. should I be worried??
Xxxx

Why aren't you allowed sausages when you're pregnant?

I ate lots of sausages when I was pregnant, especially with DS2 when all I craved was meat. He is a happy and healthy five year old now.

No no to eat sausages? Never heard that, where did you read it? Best to follow NHS advice on food and drink, other countries have different guidance. Sausages are fine and you are probably just feeling full

Emberfoot · 16/05/2020 00:34

The only sausages you aren't supposed to eat are ones that are just smoked, like salami I thought? Even then cooked it'd be fine.

Thank you for your speedy replies as I have been laying on my sofa stressing!
I have been googling way too much during my 3rd pregnancy and everything I read was telling me to avoid them.. I dont know why I am so worried this time around and have been worried about everything! Maybe it's because I ate 6 huge fatty sausages and the quantity is bloating me.
I am so pleased I joined mumsnet tonight as I feel so isolated at the moment. Thank you soooo much xx

🤨

I spent one of my pregnancies in Germany. I can categorically state that there is no issue with sausage consumption.
Step away from google. If you have stomach ache it’s quantity not content that’s the issue.

If you are craving meat you might want to get your iron levels checked.

NeverHadANickname · 16/05/2020 01:17

Sausages are fine. If you are unsure just check the NHS page for help, you wouldn't eat another thing if you followed all of the other stuff when you Google 😊 good luck with your pregnancy.

Thank you ladies 🙂 I think I may have just overloaded on sausages tonight.
I ate the whole pack of 6 which is unlike me but i cant stop eating at the moment...hmmmmm. lol.
I'm 39 and this is my 3rd pregnancy and iv had alot of worry around this pregnancy and have heard lots of negative stories told to me lately regarding my age and what I should and shouldn't do/eat and so on. Its put me on edge with everything I eat at the moment xxx thank goodness for mumsnet!!

I was exactly the same until about a week ago (I am 15+6 today). I think I ate sausages by the kilo 😂 Personal favourite was buckwurst which I microwaved to death before eating. I think this kid will come out with a sausage in his hand!
Don't worry, as long as things are cooked, you are good to go.

Spindelina · 16/05/2020 08:54

Guidelines on what you are advised to avoid vary by country according to the actual risks in that country (eg raw eggs in U.K. are now fine).

So assuming you are in the UK, step away from google and look at the NHS advice.

I think as long as they're cooked sausages will be totally fine. I know under cooked pork can be dangerous so just make sure they're cooked xx
