Scan at 6+2 measuring just under 6 weeks; hold sac but no heartbeat

As the title says: I've just had a scan at what I thought was 6+2 (booked early as had some spotting). They saw a yolk sac and a subchorionic haematoma but no heartbeat or foetal pole.

I've got another scan booked for two weeks time but just wondered if anyone had had similar and it turn into a viable pregnancy?

Did they say that you could maybe be only around 5 weeks?

My friend went for what she thought was her 6 week scan and could only see sac and fetal pole and was told she could either be too early (around 5 weeks) or the pregnancy didn’t progress. She had to wait two weeks to come back. When she went back she was 7 weeks and heart beat detected

They estimated I was just under six weeks - it's possible I had my dates wrong, I suppose. I've got to wait two weeks for another scan!

That sounds normal for this stage of pregnancy, to be honest. They don't usually expect to see a heartbeat until towards the end of week 6.

I also wouldn't worry about it being a couple of days out - if you ovulated or implanted a couple of days late that could be why, or it could be the sonographer measured slightly wrong. It's a matter of mm at this stage! I had an early scan due to suspected ectopic, where I measured 5 days behind my LMP dates, then at the 12 week scan I was brought forward 5 days from my LMP dates.

Try not to worry too much, and I wish you all the best for your rescan in two weeks Flowers

Thanks. I am less worried about no heartbeat but thought I would have seen a foetal pole by now :/

I had something very similar a couple of weeks ago. I went for a scan after having some brown discharge at what I thought was 6 +5. They scanned me and said I was closer to 5+6 and they could see no foetal pole or heartbeat. I went back just under two weeks later and was 7+5 and there was a blob with a heartbeat. It was a horrible two weeks, after having miscarried in November, but at that stage there likely wouldn’t be a heartbeat. Cross your fingers! It’s a dreadful wait though xx

It's very early to scan, especially if not 100% on your dates.
I had my first scan when I should have been 7+5 from LMP but baby only measured 6+1 and I was told if I'd gone in a day or 2 earlier, I may not have seen anything.
Vaby had caught up by a week when I went for my dating scan and I'm now 27 weeks.

Mine was the same at 5+6 (was meant to be 6+4 but long cycles means I knew I wasn’t!) yolk sac but no foetal pole, went back 2 weeks later and could see little blob with heartbeat.

I went to a scan for this pregnancy, i had been tracking ovulation and had had lots of mc already so was very nervous. I thought i was 6 weeks they put me at 4 with only the sac being seen. I went back a week later and was put at between 5 and 6 weeks baby seen with a hb, 2 weeks later they put at 8 weeks Shock

I am now 38 weeks, so it can happen.

Thanks everyone. It's going to be a long two weeks! Fingers crossed things develop as they should 🙂

Anyone else got any advice or been in a similar situation?

I had exactly the same. LMP put me at 6+1 but they measured me at 5+6 and there was only the gestational sac and yolk sac and nothing else. After an agonising 2 week wait we had another scan and there was a baby with a heartbeat! 💕

itssquidstella · 14/05/2020 09:55

That's reassuring @BettyS89. Going by my lmp I'm actually 8+3 (!) but I've had stupidly irregular cycles since I had a mc in January; I thought I'd ovulated on 13/4 based on cm but actually it could have been a few days later as apparently you often don't ovulate until a couple of days after you have fertile cm.
