Dinner ideas for nauseous people

Hi,
I am really struggling each day for what to eat for dinner as nearly everything I think of is just 🤢 to me at the moment.

I am basically down to plan chkn and chips or southern fried breaded fillets. Or plain chkn with plain pasta. Sweetcorn is the only veg! The only things that I perk up at the thought if eating are takeaways. Korma at times, pizza and fish or chicken suppers.

Anything with a tomato based sauce is out. Even burgers are out. I was eating steak but it is now on the yuck list.

I have been giving in and ordering but I don't normally eat them and it is so bad for you. I normally eat pretty healthily and cook all meals from scratch.

Any ideas? Even just list your fav meals below and it might tickle my fancy?

Oh and ice poles! I am eating them by the box load!

Maybe try mixed salad with a vinegary dressing, or fried rice with mixed veg?

Jasminex1 · 12/05/2020 12:12

Sorry to hear you're struggling op! What about something you can hide some veg in, like rice, risotto, fajitas? I definitely find that carby food makes me feel better, I've gone off a lot of things too!

Sheera1 · 12/05/2020 12:21

I like the rice ideas! Hadn't thought of that. Could get a stir fry pack and that is some veg! Ebmven just don't without a sauce. Just some soy. That is appealing! Fajitas actually are good. Forgot them. I manage them ok.

It is such a weird thing isn't it. We get to near dinner and I just think 🤢 to most things.

You’re eating which is the main thing. If you’ll eat pasta, pizza, chicken and sweet corn how about making a really basic pasta salad? Cooked pasta, chopped chicken pieces and sweet corn as the base and then maybe cooked chopped peppers, some grated cheese and any other cooked veg you can tolerate chopped up into it.

sel2223 · 12/05/2020 12:37

You're doing better than I did OP....I survived almost entirely on salt and vinegar crisps, fizzy sweets and occasionally small bits of fruit in the first trimester 🙈

The most important thing is that you are eating something and keeping hydrated. Just go with whatever you can manage. I took pregnancy supplements as I was concerned about baby getting all the right nutrients so maybe think about that if you're worried your diet isn't varied enough.

Jasminex1 · 12/05/2020 12:54

@Sheera1 I just find it so weird that you can want to eat something one day and the thought of it the next day can make you 🤢 like @sel2223 salt and vinegar crisps and fizzy sweets are getting me through the day some days!

PicpouldePinet · 12/05/2020 12:56

This is so hard, isn't it OP? I'm in the same boat. Feel disgusted most of the time at the thought of any food at dinner, but I'll happily order in! Hmm... Absolutely zero suggestions as I am so damn nauseated, but watching with interest...

Sheera1 · 12/05/2020 13:00

Yes it is so random lol.

I like the pasta salad idea actually!

Yes at the start it was pickled onion monster much at the start!

Think I need to forget dinner as such and have more lunch things for tea as doing ok eith sandwiches and baked potatoes. X

It was all blueberry muffins & feeling sick here.
Stir fry sounds a good idea.

ShirleyPhallus · 12/05/2020 13:04

The only thing that helped me get any nutrients in the first trimester was making a green smoothie with loads of banana and spinach in (you can’t taste the spinach) but the banana was so smooth and sweet it didn’t make me feel too bad. Add in berries, apple, a carrot etc etc. I’d drink it mid morning and then know I’d at least had something nutritious

Otherwise red pasta sauce with hidden veggies?

mightybuzz · 12/05/2020 13:08

I feel you 100%, I am just coming out of this (16 weeks today, it started going away at 15 weeks)

In my opinion there is no point meal planning or getting a big shop because you won't fancy what you fancied yesterday today.

Just lean in on the takeaways. Wait until you're really hungry, then order. Don't worry about the health aspect, it's not going to be forever, this phase will pass. Just go with your whims. You'll be eating normally again in a few weeks.

Jasminex1 · 12/05/2020 13:40

@Sheera1 have you tried sickness bands or anything like that for the nausea?

hanahsaunt · 12/05/2020 13:44

Baked potatoes were a life saver. And really hot, hot chocolate.

Superscientist · 12/05/2020 14:17

The meal i enjoyed most during my pregnancy sickness period was pan fried mackerel fillets with a pickled salad on the side. I'm not entirely sure why that was fine but crackers were on the no list at the time! The body is weird!

I generally found palate cleansing foods easier than bland foods as they seemed to taste the same up and down so I felt preemptively sick.

MichelleOR84 · 12/05/2020 15:30

For both this pregnancy and my last , I struggled to eat hot meals for dinner unless it was takeaway 😩

So I basically ate sandwiches, cereal and salads lol. And takeaway 😬

Although this pregnancy I’ve been so good with avoiding takeaway , mostly because my favourite ones are closed 😝

I’m 13 weeks now and hoping the food aversions go away soon. With my last pregnancy it got better towards 16-20 weeks .

TangBloodyFastic · 12/05/2020 15:53

@sheera1 are you me? This is my exact problem! I can't stomach anything decent.
Evening meal is such a PITA at the moment. I get hungry and then feel nauseous at the thought of eating anything - except bloody takeaway! What's the deal with that?!?!

I am completely meh about everything. My favourite foods don't taste "right". I'm just not enjoying anything. I want to have a proper meal but feel green at the gills at the thought of cooking something.

I never buy ready meals because I think they're bland and do not compare to home cooked. I can't cook so bought a ready meal lasagne. One mouthful and i couldn't eat anymore
Lasagne is my favourite meal too

I miss eating and enjoying what I'm eating 😭

Pantheon · 12/05/2020 15:58

Could you stomach a baked potato?

Sheera1 · 12/05/2020 16:05

Lol @TangBloodyFastic yes you must be my preggo twin. 😁

I can't stomach cooking anything just now either. My diet is appalling. Tee hee. Yes the thought of most foods is just 🤢. I haven't even tried some foods I just know it is a no. I agree they taste different.

I never eat takeaways and don't normally have a sweet tooth and it is all I seem to want to eat. And they taste bloody good too. But expensive and so bad for you. Also things like chocolate cake, doughnuts and waffles. Not chocolate, actual sweet stodge.

To cut down on that I am living on ice poles.

@MichelleOR84 yes I think 16-20 weeks will be about right and so good to know others have the same.

I ordered a KFC the other day when it opened for delivery. I haven't had one in years and it was sooo bloody good.

@pantheon baked potato is a great idea. With lots of bertoli spread. They are good at the moment.

Oh and my sense of smell is nuts. I can smell diluting orange lemon and pineapple from the next room and makes me want to barf.

And the dog! He isn't a smelly dog, but I can smell where he sits now as stale dog smell and normally can't smell it.

OP posts:
TangBloodyFastic · 12/05/2020 16:13

Haha I'm with you on the rubbish diet @Sheera1 it's so strange.
Yes I agree it's the thought of eating it which, for some reason can turn my stomach! I made a chicken meal the other week which I normally really enjoy (when I just about managed to cook - haven't done since!) i didn't even taste it. Put it straight in the freezer and still the thought of eating it makes my mouth water - and not in a good way 😫

NoNameIdeas · 12/05/2020 16:29

I've just been eating anything that doesn't make me feel 🤢 currently off meat but fish is ok so lots of that for dinner...mostly with salad as I don't really fancy rice. Attempting pasta tonight! Lunch is easier for me also, but snacks are terrible!

LH1987 · 12/05/2020 18:45

Baked potato with cheese
Mac and cheese
Avocado on toast

Sorry you are struggling, it will pass :)

usernameannonymous · 12/05/2020 18:57

I haven't had dinner yet but all I'm craving is greasy fish and chips from the shop 😂

usernameannonymous · 12/05/2020 18:57

How many weeks are you?
