Pregnant with number 1 - just went for an early scan at around 9 weeks and the sonographer floored me when she said that we are expecting twins! Cannot believe it but also panicking a little bit. Is this riskier? How are we going to manage? AHHHH

Congratulations, I'm sure more knowledgeable people will be along soon but in the meantime I wanted to send you Flowers and a virtual Gin for the shock.

Twin pregnancy are considered a bit riskier (this is why they're reluctant to transfer more than one embryo for IVF in younger patients), but remember plenty of people throughout history have had twins without any issue !

It's likely you'll have them a bit earlier and you may be offered extra monitoring (or not, depending on your pregnancy and your doctor).

I was both hoping and afraid of having twins, in the end I never had them. Probably for the best as it's hard enough being a single parent, though I'll always have this little niggling regret. You'll probably find the first few months harder but when they start playing together it'll be amazing !

If you have specific questions about potential risks ask your doctor or midwife. Stay off google as they will report on the bad cases and not so much on the positive outcomes, and other twin pregnancies mean nothing for your own specific pregnancy.

Good luck and congratulations !
