So last night I went into hospital with contractions 2 minutes apart lasting for a minute, I’d been in labour for 3 hours at this point. My first labour was fast so expected a fast labour with this one too. I got into hospital at 9pm where the midwife unfortunately told me I was only 3cm dilated. The contractions were still coming thick and fast and so I laboured in triage for 2 hours until my next check. Where I was still 3cm. At this point I was sent home. Where eventually (around 2am) my contractions completely stopped. So now I’m waiting for them to start again, feeling completely defeated. What do I even do. It’s now 6pm. Random contractions but nothing concrete, and even if they were concrete how do I know when to go in? I was so sure it was it last night, I was even worried I wouldn’t make it to hospital! I’ve never experienced this before. I’ve vomited twice, I’ve completely lost my appetite. I just don’t even know anymore

At least you've started dilating. Can you try and get a wee nap. You might wake up to contractions. Frustrating for you but things are going in the right direction now.

From everything I've read about labour, these stop starty labours are just another variety of normal, and it doesn't mean its all for nothing! It's your body slowly gearing up for the main event. You might find that you dilate from 5-10cm super quickly but take a few days to get to 5cm! It's hard to predict. The best thing you can do is do things you find relaxing. Have a sleep, watch a nice film, take a bath, eat chocolate, etc. This will provide the right conditions for labour to get going again. If you are worried and stressed about it your body will take that cue to pause... but if you're relaxed, oxytocin (and labour) will flow ;)

Oh noo, I feel for you 😩

I was in labour for 49 hours . It took me 34 hours just to get to 4cms . I was throwing up so bad , had the shakes , couldn’t eat , had diarrhoea. It was horrible .

Try to rest while the contractions have stopped . They will start back up again , baby will come .Stay strong 💪

Hang in there, have a bath and get plenty of rest, it could ramp up later today. She will be here soon to meet you
