Shit - didn't know you couldn't have cod liver oil

I'm 5+6 and have just learned that cod liver oil is on the banned list because of the vitamin A. I've been taking it until now. Do you think it'll have done the embryo any harm? Panicking now!

Haha if only, I'm properly bunged up! I've read it can cause birth defects :/ I'll obviously stop taking it now but concerned I've already done some damage.

So many people do all the things you're not supposed to before they realise they're pregnant - get drunk, exercise heavily, go in hot tubs etc etc. They're normally fine as long as they stop when they find out! Mention it to your midwife anyway but you're likely fine.

I'm just a bit paranoid as I had a mc in January, so I'm freaking out about this pregnancy already. Hopefully if I stop taking it now, I won't do any harm :/

I think it will probably be ok. I totally forgot and are pate at five weeks. I comfort myself by thinking that the fetus is getting its nutrients from the yolk sac at this stage so shouldn’t be sharing maternal blood and hopefully not exposed to elevated vitamin A levels!

I wouldn’t worry because the placenta isn’t even feeding the embryo yet , so it wouldn’t have crossed to the baby. When I was 7 weeks I accidentally took one of my emergency epilepsy drugs thinking it was an anti sickness because they begin with the same letter and it was like 2am , and I didn’t realise until the morning and that’s a big no no in pregnancy and can kill the baby. I rang the nhs 111 in a panic and they said it wouldn’t have got to the baby at all. And that is a very strong drug . Just don’t do it again you’ll be fine ! I’m 24 weeks now and baby is kicking away x

Thanks @GaaaaarlicBread and glad your pregnancy is going well! I'd forgotten that there isn't a shared blood supply yet - that's reassured me a bit.
