How soon can I take a pregnancy test and what are my chances of getting pregnant?

Had a baby 4.5 weeks ago by csection. Started having sex a week after (I know, not recommended, before anyone tells me how it affects the body and the risks - I know). A few days ago we had unprotected sex and stupidly used the pull out method. Didn’t get the morning after pill. Yes I’m an idiot, I know. But my question is how high are the chances of getting pregnant again and how soon can I take a pregnancy test? Can’t find anything online except for ‘When is it safe to get pregnant again?’ Help!

Well, theoretically the odds are pretty low only a few weeks after giving birth, but there's absolutely no way of being sure until you can test, a couple of weeks from now.

Sorry missed your question - sperm can survive in your body up to five days and a test should be positive around 14 days after fertilisation, so you can test in three weeks.

You could test before but there's the risk of it being a false negative. Three weeks from now, if the test is negative, then you're almost definitely not pregnant.

Forgot to add - it's even more unlikely if you're breastfeeding.

It's rare to see babies less than a year apart for a good reason.

It can't be ruled out entirely but until and if you see a positive test I wouldn't sweat it.
