How soon did you do the deed after your miscarriage?

I just finished bleeding from my miscarriage on Tuesday. I was around 6 weeks. Totally didn't feel like having sex as soon as I found I was pregnant because I was tired all the time. But not that I'm not, I'm having 'emotions' down there. But it feels a bit scary...I know your supposed to wait two weeks. But has anyone had sex after the bleeding stopped? Also, has anyone conceived straight away?

I had sex maybe about 2 weeks after the bleeding stopped. I got pregnant 3 months later though .

Oreoreo · 09/05/2020 13:21

I don’t think we did until about a month after, but that’s more because I didn’t feel like it than anything else. We also conceived 3 months later

Lucygucy · 09/05/2020 13:29

My first one i waited about 3 months. Physically i was fine, just issues between H and I. I waited between 6 and 8 weeks. I waited until I had a period and then 2 weeks after that. Fortunately managed to get pregnant again straight away. If I'm honest I had sex to get pregnant not because I wanted to have sex iykwim.

Sorry to hear about your MC. We did after 2 weeks, the bleeding had stopped about 10 days but waited until the 2 weeks. I miscarried naturally at about 6 weeks. I fell pregnant again straight away, got a positive test exactly 4 weeks after my MC. Good luck x

imgardening · 09/05/2020 14:30

Sorry to hear about your mc. I had surgical management and dtd about 10 days after when I'd stopped bleeding. It took me 8 months to conceive after mmc.

Minkies13 · 09/05/2020 15:23

We had sex a week after the miscarriage finished, and the following week, and fell pregnant right away. Now 15 weeks

Daffodil21 · 09/05/2020 15:28

We started trying again 2 weeks after, and I feel pregnant straight away. Unfortunately that one also ended in MC for us. I've heard before that you're more fertile straight after (and 3 months after I think?). We had been trying for almost a year at that point, so I think there is some truth in that.

I'm sorry for your loss. Take the time you need, it really is a shitty thing to go through and I hope you have your rainbow soon Thanks

@faithfulbird

So sorry this has happened Flowers. We waited two weeks (had surgical management) because they said otherwise you can run the risk of an infection. I didn't want that to deal with on top of everything else we had been through.

In answer to your other question, it took quite a long time for my period to come back, but we conceived again on my first proper cycle.

I really hope you recover and heal and are able to conceive again soon if that is what you would like. Flowers.

Two days after my bleeding has stopped and I felt up to it ( so 2 days after confirmed mc) my midwife told me it was safe enough and no reason not to as long as my bleeding had stopped, I was up for it, pregnancy tests negative and scan confirmed all products of conception were gone. I was 7 weeks

Rainbowafterthestorm · 10/05/2020 08:49

I had a miscarriage in very January. We started to have sex again as soon as the bleeding had stopped. I was told by a consultant to maybe wait until after my next period. We were going to wait as I seemed to not really grieve, my head took a very scientific (it wasn’t heathy, Mother Nature did the right thing approach) which worried my OH as usually I’m quite emotional. However we went on holiday and I think it was the break we both needed and one thing led to another. I’m now 14 weeks (+2) pregnant. I’ve had two scans and the baby is fine. Be aware though, I couldn’t actually tell my midwife any dates, so I ended up we my booking appointment too early for my area and both scans giving due dates around a week different. I had a couple of weeks worry where I wasn’t sure if they’d booked my 12 week scan too late then I wouldn’t be allowed the combined tests for Down’s syndrome etc.

TKAAHUARTG · 10/05/2020 08:51

I was told there was no medical reason to abstain. I literally got pregnant straight away.

TKAAHUARTG · 10/05/2020 08:51

I was 13 weeks

okiedokieme · 10/05/2020 08:56

I was told to wait until after my next period many years ago admittedly, I think it's partly to allow your body to fully recover before you get pregnant again though, so fine if you use protection before hand

UtterFabulousness · 10/05/2020 09:15

I'm sorry Thanks

We DTD pretty soon after the MC (about a week after the bleeding stopped) and certainly before I had another period. Got PG straight away.

Wouldn't recommend it tbh, Drs had problems dating the pregnancy - they insisted on using the date of the mc but I knew I hadn't ovulated until 4 weeks after that (I get terrible ovulation pains) . Caused a few problems when DC had to be born premature and they needed to know how many weeks I was.

Would have been better if I'd waited until after my period and my cycle had got back to normal!

TKAAHUARTG · 10/05/2020 09:35

Did they not give a dating scan Fab? I also did not have a period before getting pregnant, but an early scan is more accurate anyway.

MotherofKitties · 10/05/2020 09:48

When I ovulated again, which was about two weeks after the bleeding stopped. I had to convince my DH as it was so soon, but as I was ovulating I didn't want to miss the chance to get pregnant. I'm now 24 weeks with my second x

UtterFabulousness · 10/05/2020 23:07

Yes I had scans but as my 1st DC measured v v big for dates, Drs were a bit worried my 2nd was doing the same.

SparkyBlue · 10/05/2020 23:20

We dtd about two or three days after I had a D&C. I felt absolutely fine and I had read that you are very fertile after pregnancy or pregnancy loss so I was anxious to be pregnant again. It actually took five months to get pregnant again.

PrinnyPree · 11/05/2020 09:53

I was only 5 weeks when I miscarried (confirmed by blood test at hospital) but less than 2 weeks after and got pregnant straight away (now 38+2) sending hugs. Flowers

Persiaclementine · 11/05/2020 09:55

As soon as I hadn't bled for about 3 days then we had sex

Elouera · 11/05/2020 10:05

Sorry for your loss OP. I had my 3rd pregnancy loss on Thu. Each previous time, I've waited at least 2 weeks after bleeding stopped before DTD. Sometimes you need a little lube, because things can be a little dry due to hormones etc.

I've done a lot of reading about the so called higher fertility after MC, but I'm yet to actually find any medical evidence or data on it. It also seems that those that do conceive the same cycle, without AF in between, often lead onto another MC. There are obviously cases where some go to term, but seems more often, they just MC again.

DH and I had no cause for sub-fertility found. I'm older, but very good egg count for my age, regular cycles & no other health issues. It took 10mths to get pregnant again after the 1st loss, then almost 18mths with the next.
