Worried I won't get my late claim maternity allowance?

Hi,

I will be applying for maternity allowance about 3 months late for personal reasons. However, I am afraid that my explanation will not be good enough for them to make the exception and pay me the full amount. Can anyone with experience in this area (late claim, HMRC, job centre) help with what type of reasons are deemed acceptable?

I actually have experience of this! I sent my claim 3 months late and was worried, asked them if it would effect it, they said it shouldn't and it didn't, I got the full back pay.

The only problem is MA is quite a slow benefit. Depending on your circumstances you may need to be in touch with them more them once before your claim can even be processed. Definitely call them up and speak to them.

@Cloudyvanilla Also, did you give a valid reason for the claim being late?

My dd was 10 weeks old when I applied. I wrote in that she had been in and out of hospital in those 10 weeks and I had also been in and out of hospital in the weeks leading up to the birth.

No one questioned it.
