Pregnancy vitamins upsetting stomach

I'm taking the Superdrug own brand and they are really messing with my stomach I'm going from diarrhoea to normal and back again in the space of a couple of hours (sorry TMI). 😬

Shall I try a different brand or are they all the same just under different brand names?

Just wondering if there is one a bit more gentle on the tummy 😂

Are you sure it’s the vitamins? I can’t think why they’d do this

I had the same issue with pregnacare and with Seven Seas pregnancy vitamins.

I ended up paying for Wild Nutrition vitamins. High price tag but an excellent, pure product. They are also hugely helpful and knowledgeable about the ingredients they use if you have any queries.

It's the only thing different I can think of....I am making myself drink more water as I'm aware I'm not drinking enough but can't see water doing that.

It could just be pregnancy, some diarrhoea is quite common. Maybe just get folic acid and vitamin D on their own and see how that is

Oooh might be worth looking in to those then! Thank you for your help glad I'm not the only one!

This happened to me and my GP said to try plain folic acid, which worked. It was definitely the vitamins in my case too, and it was every multivitamin I tried, hence switching to purely folic acid.

I've seen a lot of people saying pregnacare and other brands have made them ill.
I had a lot of sickness and diarrhoea at the starting my pregnancy which could have been made worse by the multi vitamins but I just persevered and tried whatever I could to keep them down.
I'm 26 weeks now and still taking pregnacare and the side effects seem to have stopped.

You could try just folic acid and vitamin d which are the essential vitamins: www.boots.com/boots-folic-acid--vitamin-d-60-tablets-10273999 these are tiny and easy to swallow.

I just took folic acid and vitamin D (from boots but you can get them elsewhere). They're the two essential ones. The pregnancy multivitamins made me feel very nauseous each time (and my nausea wasn't too bad in my first pregnancy, worse in my second).

Star1995 · 08/05/2020 08:26

Thank you for all the messages! Think just taking the essential ones may be the way forward then 🙂

Some women can’t process folic acid which is the synthetic form of folate. Try getting ‘folate’ which is the natural form.

I get really sick when I take vitamins, no idea why. Not diarrhoea but vomiting.
