8+3 weeks, gestational sac and yolk sac but no baby

Hi all.

I have just been to the EPU after brown spotting since 1st of May. Asked GP to refer as had a little reddish blood in the middle but back to brownish spotting, no clots or cramps or anything.
After having a abdominal and TV scan(have an anteverted uterus) I was told there is no baby, they can see a gestational sac. One of the doctors thought there was nothing and asked another one to come in and the second one said she could see a very vague yolk sac. Also can't see a foetal pole or a heartbear. Gestational sac was 20.9 mm. So they've said they can't strictly call it miscarriage as I don't qualify for the two requirements that they have, but it doesn't look normal. I was told a baby could turn up but at the same time it could be a MC. I still have sore boobs, tiredness and nausea.
So have come out with no reassurance, only more worried and anxious, the person seeing me was not empathetic at all - tmi but I was in the middle of my TV when she started talking to the other patient about another patient whilst I was just there with the wand in me...

Wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if someone could offer any advice or insight?

Thank you all

If the baby is 8 weeks then I think generally speaking they would expect to be able to see it. But are you sure about your dates? Is it possible that you're less far along than you think?

I was told a baby could turn up but at the same time it could be a MC.

Sorry, I missed this. How stressful for you, OP, not having any certainty one way or the other. Are they bringing you back for another scan?

I am sure about my dates as I have a fairly regular cycle,

Yes I am going back on 20th for another scan to see what's going on. But the advice was you might have a MC and experience heavy bleeding but still come to the scan. If you don't then still come to the scan.

Just really confused now.

I mean " if you don't have any bleeding still come to scan"

well, i've been in similar situation. first scan - g-sac and yolk sac were present, but no embryo. but in my case, the dates were wrong, as my periods are irregular. I thought it was around 9 weeks, but as per the first scan it was 5w+4. another scan in 10 days, and embryo was there along with cardiac activity.
So you'll get surety only after the second scan. Wish you all the best.

@mum707 thank you this does give me some hope. Trying my best to stay cautiously optimistic... I don't know how else Id go through the next 2 weeks. Thank you so much. Hope all is well now.
