Coughing up blood, should I ring GP?

I’m only 6 weeks today but for the past week and a half I’ve suffered with bad sickness. I’m still managing to keep some food down toast etc. Last night I woke up and gagged so much I coughed up blood. Shall I contact my GP or is this just common for bad sickness?

Yes. Do you have a midwife yet? Call them.
I had exactly this at a similar state. Is it fresh red blood? If so, it’s likely to be from tearing your throat from being sick. Ie; not a problem to the pregnancy. Your GP can give medication to try and control the sickness.

Dark, old, brown blood is likely to need further investigation.

If you can’t get a GP apt, then you would be justified in going to A&E.

Thank you everyone for your replies. Just rung 111 and someone is due to give me a call back in half an hour. I don’t unfortunately have a midwife yet. I’m sorry you went through the same thing, it’s horrible! Yes it’s fresh red blood.

The website pregnancy sickness support has lots of helpful info - hope you feel better soon.

Yes - this happened in my last pregnancy had quite big clots one time 😨 - you'll have caught something being sick but you should seek some treatment. Most likely they'll give you some anti sickness medication.
